University of New Mexico is announcing that they will be dropping men's soccer tomorrow.

Travel budgets for other teams drop significantly.

That's very unfortunate both for the student-athletes and the athletic community as a whole at New Mexico. But I had to laugh at diving and men's soccer being next to each other on the cut list. Without the former, you won't have much luck in the latter.

Fishbein & co. did all they could do to save the sport. It's sad to see that the program will be cut. I'll definitely attend their final game in Boca this year.

And this will leave 6 C-USA members + 2 affiliate members (Kentucky, South Carolina) for 2019.

Sad. Aren’t they usually pretty good in men’s soccer?

Yep it’s sad what’s happening in the college athletic landscape.

Yep. Part of it is money. A large part is Title IX which has gone and tilted things so it's actually unfair to men.

Title IX guarantees women rights against the more powerful interests supporting men's sports, so perhaps there needs to be a Title ## that levels the playing field between NCAA members. It really is ridiculous when there are P5 programs struggling to find new ways to spend the oceans of money they get, while smaller schools are cancelling sports and eliminating scholarships.

And that's the smartest thing I've ever read on the disparity between us and the P5. Your idea would probably work.

Bravo!

More sports will be cut for all universities sooner than later....No way that about 55% of FBS schools can keep up money wise and support all the programs they are supporting...We have already cut Swimming and Track and Field....Not sure what else we can cut but I expect mens golf will be cut sooner than later....

This is going to force the regional realignment. Sending your really low non revenue sports more than halfway across the country is crazy. All conference members are struggling with this but some more than others. ODU is adding womens volleyball in 2020 and I dont see any cuts coming but this cant go on forever.

I don't know about this. ODU just shifted lacrosse to the big east, who will be competing with Denver. I am assuming women's lacrosse is a really low revenue sport, so why not stay with ASun?

Check out the makeup of both leagues. The cost difference between the two will be minimal (we may even save money) since all Big East W Lax teams are in major cities with direct flights from Norfolk. Can't say that for the ASun.

Good point, per usual
