the reason I say 8 wins...I'm remembering when Riley came under Center after Paxton had moved on to the NFL.
We had some explosive weapons then...we just had to wait for Riley to really get acclimated to the offense.
I suspect we'll be more of a running threat this year than in the past until whomever is QBing the team gets it all under his belt.

You hit the difference in your last sentence. We will have a strong running game - one of our best ever. That gives a huge learning curve advantage to the new QB. I agree 7 is the floor, with an expectation of 9 during regular season.

RE: Football Predictions
I like to be optimistic but realistic about our chances also. When someone says 9-3 is the FLOOR, I think that’s being very generous. Very easy home schedule helps but if everything doesn’t go well we could be 7-5. We lost 3 big time playmakers in Miller, Ferguson and Avery. Let’s hope our system and young kid stepping up keeps us in 10 win range again.

It won’t be easy.

RE: Football Predictions
Personally the only reasonable expectation for a fan before the season begins is an undefeated season. i doubt seriously if any players or coaches or most fans are expecting to lose any game on the schedule. That said after the season realistic evaluation of the season is based on much more information and situations than can be anticipated before the season begins. I never thought there was such a thing as to high expectations. There are and we have all witnessed fans mistaking disappointment for evaluation. This should be fun! Please don't make it miserable for those of us who are plain and simply fans who love our team and want only the best for it. If you want to be a talking head go to a neutral site and blather on about how P5 schools should always be ranked higher in the preseason, and non P5 schools should never have an opportunity for a national championship. This is what passes for reasonable preseason prognostication. Personally I find it all hog wash and just about as valuable as what I paid for it.

Have to say I agree! 04-cheers

I don't see a game on our schedule we can't win. Have seen two different computer indexes that have us 11-1 and 12-0, so computers are far smarter than I... or in this case, equally smart because that's what I feel.

RE: Football Predictions
I wish Navy and South Alabama were switched. I would much rather play them with more PT under our belts. Of course, maybe playing them almost right out of the box, after the "tune up" game (hopefully), will allow some fall camp to be spent on prepping for them. If we're stumbling and discombobulated with the new QB against Mercer, even though eventually prevailing, then get punched in the mouth and lose at Navy, at least we have several games to right the ship before the tougher games.

Of course we need a bigger name OOC opponent on the schedule for 9/22, but we also need for our conference mates to get their acts together. East Carolina, Tulsa, and UConn several years before have all been teams that this year would be anticipated games because of the question of the outcome. (I hope there is no question about the outcomes this year. Don't mean to slam on them.)

I actually like Navy as our second game, for the reason you expressed. We can focus on them more in Fall camp.

I honestly don't mind South Alabama as a good tune up for Tulane. I honestly think they will be better. Although the way we stomped them in the first half last season was pretty incredible.

This season sets up to be great. Next season sets up to be incredible. Adding Tempe, Cincy and USF to the schedule will be a big boost. Wish we didn't have to add ole miss, but a good stomping of our rivals will be enjoyable.

RE: Football Predictions
I would put the over-under at 8.5 wins.

We have a favorable schedule, and I think our running game and defense will both be very good. Navy will be a big game out of the gate. Tulane and SMU will be improved, so playing at their places won't be cakewalks. I really like having Houston and UCF at home.

I am worried about QB. The spring game was really ugly. Hopefully White and Moore have made improvements since then.

Compared to maybe last years or three years ago, but apart from that... you haven't been to many spring games. I remember ones that the score would've been 6-3 if the kicker hit all the FGs. The only time the offense would score is if we set it up like OT and started inside the 25.

By saying the over/under is 8.5, you are saying 8 or 9 wins is the range. I will take that bet every day!!

Got it!!!! You know some people make quick replys without directly quoting who they are replying to to make the threads shorter and easily readable. Especially those posts that have the gigantic pics and 10 posters reply all picking up the pic in the reply.

Thread winner right there... he may not have gotten the final record exactly right, but his reasoning is dead-on.
