OATM is glad to see Rice (with two postseason appearances) finish ahead of CLT & TEP (each with zero appearances).

OATM is sad to see Rice (with two postseason appearances) finish behind TSA (also with zero postseason appearances). “Bowl Eligible” in Football but one of three teams not invited is worth that many points?

OATM says if you’re going to give points for getting shafted then MTS should get 40 points (not 20) for MBB.

Otherwise a pretty good formula and I hope we do better than 12th next year.

Still pretty subjective. They are weighing football higher than other sports, they specifically include only three sports (why those sports?) plus the two "wildcards" (why 2? Why not 1 or 3?).

I think my FAU should be ranked even lower, because we really did reasonably well only in two, at most three sports last year.

I think it's fair to weigh football higher since it's easily the sport most schools put the lion's share of their money into, and helps fund most of the other sports anyway. And I think the two "wildcards" were designed to actually make it less subjective by looking at individual schools' other two most successful spectator sports, meaning they won't be the same for each school and are in effect trying to give each athletic program their maximum credit.

As with any other rating system, it's much easier to criticize than it is to come up with something better, and there will never be a rating system which everyone will consider completely objective, or agree on. As for why they included two wildcards, it's possible they just wanted to keep the number at a fairly manageable five sports.
