So I have a dumb question

Can someone explain how the machine knows whether you made the shot or not?

The machines will help give our team an edge. It is the little things - when accumulated - that sum to a big thing.

So what were they doing previously...

Did they have volunteers retrieving rebounds and passing out.

I was surprised we didn't have them until I saw the they costed 10k

It seems like there was a similar contraption in the field house some years ago. I'm confident it wasn't of the $10k variety

Yep, the older ones were just a ball return so you didn't have to have someone rebound for you. Wish I had one growing up. We had a hill on the side of the goal and I spent a lot of time chasing the ball down that hill.

The line drive shooters are gone the way of the dinosaur with this thing. Either elevate or you do not get ball to basket.

I did not see the net move according to the shot selected. A 15 foot jumper has a different arc than a three point shot. A "one size fits all" net height is better than nothing, but not optimal for training purposes because each shot location has an arc maximizing accuracy.
