RIP.

Sounds like a great player.

I wonder what Wake's consensus "Top 5" or First Team hoops players would be.

In fact, that may be an interesting summer-time thread here, with each school putting up their First Team hoops players.

This guy should definitely be on Wake's first team.

In my lifetime, or at least who I remember watching, I know there are three guaranteed:

Tim Duncan
Chris Paul
Randy Childress

You hear a lot about Dickie Hemric, and of course Charlie Davis. Muggsy Bogues is up there too; I only remember him in the NBA though.

Lenny was a teammate of Billy Packer and might have been the best team in '62.

Without question, the only player that I’ve seen in ACC history – and I didn’t see Dickie Hemric play – that could match what Lennie did as a rebounder and scorer and as a presence on the court is Tyler Hansbrough. Incredible speed, incredible hands, ability to score inside, ability to punish people, ability to shoot outside, ability to rebound in traffic. Not only do I think he’s the greatest player at Wake, he’s also one of the greatest to ever play intercollegiate basketball.

Psycho T had that immaculate rebound-mid-air-pump-fake-put-back-lip-roll that couldn't be defended.

* there was often a foul, and-one situation involved.

That's a good idea.

For NC State that would be:

Small Forward - David Thompson '70's
Power Forward - Kenny Carr '70's
Center - Tommy Burleson '70's
Guard - Chris Coarchiani '80's
Shooting Guard - Julius Hodge '00's

Subs would be:

Small Forward - Tom Gugliota '80's
Power Forward - T.J. Warren '10's
Center - Ronnie Shavlick '50's
Guard - Sammy Ranzino '50's
Shooting Guard - Rodney Monroe '80's

Would your top 5 players be different, if not having to fill out a starting 5?

I think it may be different for different programs.

I think coming up with a top 5 players total, without regard to position, is tough enough, so I would accept just a "first team top 5 regardless of position" type list.

I just did a "tournament" style, top 32 player voting dealio, on the rivals premium board for U of L ... based on that, the top 5 (I think) for U of L would be, in no particular order:

Darrell Griffith, 1980, Guard
Wes Unseld. 1968, Center
Pervis Ellison, 1989, Center
Junior Bridgeman, 1975, Guard
Russ Smith, 2014, Guard

There are dozens of others that are close, many more recognizable, but trying to just pick 5, is the hard part of the exercise.

I would not know who to start between Hodge and Gugliota. It would depend on the other team and if they had big guards I would start Gugliota. Talent is important but you need players who know how to win in the big games. David Thompson is the greatest player in ACC history and Len Bias is second, ******* Laetner is probably third. Five of the next 10 would be Carolina players but you have to contextualize them in their system and what they did in the ACC, not later on the pros. As a college player at UNC, Michael Jordan might not make their top 10. Making up a team to win a game for UNC I would start with Bobby Jones, James Worthy, Phil Ford and Vince Carter. Hansbrough, maybe. Perkins - yes.

If you paired Len Bias 4 with MD's starting 5 from 73, you probably could not beat them.

Basketball is a shadow of itself today.

Well, I can limit myself to who I actually saw play. I know Jordan and Phil Ford etc etc. They were before my time.

Hansbrough
Jamison
Carter
Stackhouse
Felton

Off the top of my head that’s who I’d go with. I love Wallace, Cota, Lawson, Lynch ...

You missed the pinnacle era of ACC basketball. It's street ball after the shot clock is instituted - of course that was YOUR fault because you didn't have the horses to run with Duke one year.
