Clyde Gridley!!! I would walk across the Sahara for his ribs! His service was great, after waiting in line, and his bread and sides were also fantastic.

Best ribs ever!

Yep ........ & probably best ever will be

Gridley's Half-and-Half Plate - a few Shrimp and a half Slab of Ribs

RE: Central BBQ is Coming to Nashville!
Corkys in Brentwood is the only decent BBQ in Middle Tennessee. SAD !!! The place over by the Parthenon does have a decent sandwich ... But that's about it. They opened a place called Martin's in Spring Hill a couple of months ago ... WORST EVER !!! We threw BBQ ribs in the trash !!! They just don't get it !!! And if you order a BBQ sandwich here it's going to have mayo and a pickle on it. And the sauce is a runny vinegar based type. I'll just stick to Corkys or make my own !!!

While there is no such thing is bad BBQ, Central does not even make my top 5. Everyone has an opinion and everyone has favorites. Central just isn't one of my favorites.

What is your top 5?

My top 5 and everyone else top 5 are not gonna be the same. Doesn't matter. Just like asking who makes the best steak, marqarita or who has the best live music. All personal opinions.

No particular order. Going by location, price, convenience, service and overall food.

Fat Larry's
Baby Jacks
Leonards
G Commissary
Corkys
Rendezvous
Tops

Had to take it to 7.

2nd 6

BBQ Shop
Pollards
Interstate
Marlowe's
Cozy Corner
Payne's

In my opinion I will take all of the above over Central.

Tops used Blue Plate BBQ sauce.

There's a decent place up in Hendersonville - Center Point BBQ. Good meat and plenty of different sauce options. But, yeah, they do a pickle on it and no slaw. And they do a minced option instead of chopped - that is terrible. But the pulled with Wolf sauce and no pickle is pretty good.

Don't care if they use Kraft. Taste good to me. Besides, many times I eat the cheeseburger.

We'd skip Lunch at KHS & head over to Lois's or the Rebel because they weren't far & they were wickedly good.

Or if time allowed even to the original McDonald's on Summer Ave. & the Peanut Shoppe next door.

Then sneak back into the next class if we ran late.

In those days Clyde Gridley had a Dairy Bar type place called "Stop & Tell" on Macon Rd. right near National Ave.

Then Clyde opened the first Gridley's BBQ on Summer Ave. where Bryant's is located across from Grahamwood ES. He leased that location from Loeb's.

What NASCAR guy doesn't realize is that many of the better BBQ Restaurants in town used Blue Plate.

It was the base for their custom BBQ Sauce after they doctored it up with their secret ingredients.

Lois's
The Rebel
Peanut Shoppe
Brads BBQ on Waring
Jerry's Sno Cones

Must have biked 100s of miles and countless hours to those places as a kid. Someone mentioned Sweden Kreme- was that the place on Jackson Ave?

Sweden Cream is on National at Bayliss. Still there.

When Brads was on Waring, it was top notch. After the move to Bartlett and the death of one of the owners, went downhill and stayed there.

I spent so much time at the Peanut Shoppe as a kid. Though...most of it was really for Baskin Robins I'm sure...

I hate they closed both of those down on Summer. There might still be a peanut shoppe downtown.

I think the Baskin-Robbins is still there - the Peanut Shoppe closed last year, though.

Reviews in every city have been overwhelmingly positive, it seems. I imagine if it ever got to the Vegas Strip what kind of business it could do there. That said, also hoping for it to come to AZ, show the Tempe 10s what greasy food they're missing out on lol...

Live outside of Memphis for a while and you'll reconsider that "no such thing as bad BBQ" statement. There is such a thing, and it's not good.

ain't that the truth.
