I guess we can get home games and bowl tie ins after all....of course getting to 6 wins will be the hard part.

This is great news for you guys. Kind of cut down our options, so we'll have to do our best to get to 6 games and hopefully not give you a W towards that 6 win total.

not sure how Liberty would be eligible given this is their 2nd year of their FBS process. Aren't bowl eligible until 2019.

Liberty would only get it if:

1) All other 6 or more win teams have a bowl (or declined)
2) Liberty has 6 qualifying wins (one FCS counter allowed).

Still a bit surprised that there have been almost zero bowl tie news for the next bowl cycle. The NCAA allows bowls to begin signing for the next cycle on July 1 2018---and several bowl officials indicated that there would be a furious rush to sign now that the NCAA has announced the maximum number of bowl ties each conference can sign. In fact, the article I read said most of the ties would be done and announced by the end of the month. So far---nothing....not even any McMurphy rumors. Even this minor announcement is for the current cycle.

Waiting till media days coming up I would assume.

RE: Liberty and AutoNation Cure Bowl Enter Bowl Agreement for 2018 and 2019
so basically this bumps Liberty ahead of 5-7 teams. Which they already were....

My only question is why Liberty would get in over-
6-6 team who had win over non counting FCS team
6-6 team who had 2 wins over FCS teams
6-7 team
all 3 of those things were ahead of 6-6 transitioning team in the bowl process.

Also looking- Liberty has 2 FCS games- so would need to go 5-5 vs their other 10 games to have a chance. Considering the schedule includes Auburn and Virginia- going to be tough.

Am I reading this correctly that Liberty's tie-in is secondary to the two primary conference tie-ins? That is, a qualified Liberty team only gets a spot if either the Sunbelt or AAC don't have enough bowl eligible teams?

My impression was that Liberty would be only in front of the 5-7 teams.

The only thing I can think of is that perhaps a contractual tie trumps that order? I woudnt think it would---but Idk. The turth is I cant think of a situation where a transitional team had a tie to a bowl. Every situation I can think of, the transitional team's conference ties were all used up and the team was in the "at large pool" (like Georgia Southern).

Correct. McMurphy made that clear when he reported this:

If American or Sun Belt can’t fill spots in @CureBowl the next 2 seasons, then Liberty (if bowl eligible) would earn bid to Cure Bowl in 2018 & 2019

I swear when I read the title, I was thinking that the Liberty Bowl and the Cure Bowl had entered in to some kind of agreement. 07-coffee3

lol...I just glanced at the title and thought the thread was going to be about the Liberty Bowl and Autozone doing a sponsorship deal.

3)They get a bowl bid if they have 6 wins, and that there are no eligible schools with 6 or more wins like a bunch of 5-7 teams that do not qualify.

Appalachain State and Gergia Southern qualify in their 1st year as FBS, but that was the year that there were more schools with 6-6 or more wins. There was like 6 to 7 teams stayed home that year as all the bowls were filled.

If Liberty plays in a bowl game during their transition after we were denied a bowl game after going 9-3, I will set myself on fire

You have to give Liberty credit, they are working hard to move to FBS. To get a tie-in conditionally before you ever played FBS is amazing. While unlikely they will make it in 2018, they can at least promote the have a possible landing place. I think this something they will try do with other G5 bowls as a backup in the 2020-2025 cycle.

Really it’s a meaningless thing. They are going to be bowl eligible only if there are fewer than 78 teams. Just like yesterday.

Well 2018 would require either Sun Belt or AAC to fail to provide a team and Liberty have at least six wins AND no other available eligible team in all of FBS.
In 2019 it would require either Sun Belt or AAC fail to provide a team and Liberty be bowl eligible.
