I've always thought this was a great idea. 01-wingedeagle

Why not give coddled 18 year old High School and AAU phenoms the keys to the kingdom ?

We had a 3.5 GPA kid at our house that we didn't trust to feed the dog daily if we were out of town.

Admittedly, I know less than nothing about the NBA, and I like it that way, but I'm wondering if maybe they are looking at going the route of MLB? Don't they have some type of minor league system now? In baseball, you can be the overall first pick in the draft and you're still going to play minor league ball to develop.

The "one & done" rule was a compromise worked out between what the colleges wanted and the federal court ruling that allowed high school players who desired to go directly into the NBA draft. Like all other administrative rules, it will stand as long as it is not challenged by some player who feels damaged by it and takes it to federal court. Since the courts have more conservative justices now, we could see a different outcome, but we can't know until the ruling is made. How many Lebron James are there out there?

I think it's definitely going to trend in that direction. Paying G-League players a livable wage, getting better coaches, etc. This is why I hope Birmingham is serious about getting in, I think G-League is about to become much more relevant.

I think my question is what the NBA teams actually get out of it. It seems like the top players are ready to play right out of high school. Has the G-League actually produced anyone of note? I wonder if their plan is to end the Sign & Stash that frequently happens with foreign players taken outside the lottery.

I know even less about the NBA...but after reading the article, it says 19 and a year in college "or another league"...did the D/G-league not count as "another league" already?

The G-League counts, but the prevailing thinking has been that a top prospect isn't going to audition for a year against professionals and potentially hurt their value. However, I believe this upcoming season will be the first time a potential lottery pick will go from high school direct to the G-League.

Anyways, NBA teams are trying to get as many draft picks as possible for the 2020/21 drafts since that seems to be when the league rules may change, which means you'll essentially have to two drafts combined into one.

The Boston Celtic model. Get a lot of quality young guys via high draft picks. Let them fight it out building depth along the way(all on the cheap BTW). Use some of the depth as trade bait and voila. Something Philly and the Lakers, among other teams, are attempting, as well...
