RE: The best season from every AAC program
I believe the premise is not necessarily best w/l or highest ranking, but best season. For example Temple won the American in 2016, which IMO beats 2015 which was another great season for different reasons.
One interesting note is that I believe Temple lost to Tulane in the 1939 Sugar Bowl which is noted as Tulanes best season.
Anyway it’s a subjective list on an interesting football topic with 800 days until football starts again.

Don't do that to me, I had to check the calendar to make sure that wasn't true.

Even by that metric as good as 2015 was we were better in 1976, 1978, 1979, 1990, and 2011 at the least.

2015 was no worst than our 6th best season and an argument could be made for top 5 but #1?

Nope.............

Yes it seems the list badly misjudged Houston.

2011 is pure subjective and opinion....the 2015 finished higher, had a way harder schedule and had more players drafted....i get that 2011 was statisticall the best offense in the history of college football

but 2011 vs 2015 is pure opinion and subjective

Should add an asterisk because it was only for a week and you finished unranked. 2007 was a weird year with a lot of top teams losing in succession. That ranking was clearly an anomaly.

Not sure 1963 was better than 2014. The only teams with a pulse Memphis beat in '63 were Miss. St. and Southern Miss. In 2014 it was Cincy, Temple and BYU, with a bowl win and a national ranking. The 1938 season I don't recognize most of the teams.

He might have gotten that one right.

Say wut? You are terribly mistaken. I saw both seasons.

We played Ole Miss that year, when they were ranked #2 in the country, and tied them 0-0. Ole Miss finished the season as #3. Regardless of strength, that same year, we also beat South Carolina, Houston and Tulsa.

And we finished the year ranked #14, our highest poll finish ever.

Several of our players made first team AA that year.

The 2014 season (10-3) was not comparable to that performance.

IF we have another really good season, I would agree. But right now, the run from 1960-63 is arguably better than our last 4 years.

RE: The best season from every AAC program
Ancient history. 1 good season 20 years ago is not a winning culture/tradition.

The only his I care about is the league champion being a consistent top10. The AAC champions need to be respected year in and year out. Programs can have down years but the league needs to be viable.

It is difficult comparing eras - especially when spaced by over a half century. However, I think the present era beats out the 1960-1963 era based on results, quality of schedules, and resource disparity.

The reader may judge for his or her self by reviewing the game results from the 1960 through 1963 seasons.

Tulsa's best season was the last season with Burns as our coach....It made us make a clear decision on turning the program around....I might have been the worst record in our history but it was our best season because the coach got the ax!!!!

He might have gotten that one right.

That tie, the only blemish, was against Ole Miss who finished #7 in both polls and went to the Sugar Bowl. Anyway, that isn't the only problem with the OPs list by a long shot.

Btw - that '63 team finished ranked #14. And not sure why you assert that the 10-0 Memphis team doesn't count - especially when the OPs list includes teams that predate that. Sounds all made-up on the fly to be honest.

Not discounting the '63 team at all, just noting some similarities. Memphis beat 2 teams with a winning record that year, and tied Ole Miss 0-0. They finished #14 in the coaches poll that year. The AP only counted the top 10 at that time. If they counted the top 25 or even top 20 like they did from '68-'88, Memphis would likely have been in. Going undefeated in any era isn't easy.

Amen, when our tradition paid off and all those good lettermen came back and said enough. When big O walked Kragthorpe's resume into the AD's office and said talk to this guy. Jerry O will forever be one of my favorite TU stars ever. Shea Seals, Glenn Dobbs, Paul Smith up there too.

I don't know how much time the writer put into this (he also did the SEC), but did anybody even read his comments?
Quote:Tulane (1939)
Red Dawson's Green Wave crew in 1939 won a share of the SEC title with a 5-0 conference record and suffered only one blemish in the regular season -- a 14-14 tie with North Carolina. Led by tackle Harley McCollum, the fifth-ranked Green Wave lost the Sugar Bowl in their own stadium top-ranked and eventual national champion Texas A&M. Polls were taken prior to bowl games in 1939, and the season marks the only time in program history it finished with a top five ranking.

Record: 8-1-1 (5-0 SEC) | Final ranking: No. 5
Coach: Red Dawson | MVP: T Harley McCollum
Championships won: SEC
Accolades: Consensus All-American (McCollum)
NFL Draft picks on the roster: 9
Did you know? Tulane posted five shutouts during the regular season, including a 13-0 win over No. 20 Alabama. The only other top 10 finish in program history was in 1998, when Tommy Bowden's team finished 12-0 and ranked No. 7.

Sounds like he had some valid arguments. The '98 team played no one ranked. On the other hand, 12-0 is a valid argument.
