It really is a heck of a morning for sports broadcasts from the Old World:
5:30 AM: Tour de France Stage 9, from France (NBC Sports)
8:00 Wimbledon men's singles final, from UK (ESPN)
10:00 Soccer World Cup final: France v Croatia, from Russia (Fox)
11:00 Lacrosse World Games: US v Canada, from Israel (ESPN2)

And that's just one morning!

This morning (in the States) also saw the last day of the IAAF World U-20s from Finland. I barely had enough room on my DVR for all of these!

This morning also saw the end of the World championship event at the World Series of Poker. The last three of 7,874 players actually started the final day Saturday, but the heads up struggle actually lasted until 7:48 this morning.

You are being torched about your utter depth of non-inclusiveness here George. Think we need to send you to mandatory sensitivity training or somefink.....

11:00 Lacrosse World Games: US v Canada, from Israel (ESPN2)

And that's just one morning!

Of the four events, the lacrosse match (which was a preview of the likely gold medal game) was the closest, probably the most exciting, and certainly the most brutal of the four. The US scored first and led most of the way, but never by more than two goals. Canada tied it with 9 minutes to go, and took a 10-9 lead with five minutes left, only to see the US tie it at 10-all two minutes later. With just over a minute left, the US took the lead 11-10 on a surprising goal: the US attacker and his defender both slipped on the slick field, but the American scrambled to his feet and powered in a shot with everyone caught off-guard. But then Canada went man-up for the final minute -- a golden opportunity to at least force overtime and perhaps get the win. But in the last 30 seconds, the US forced a turnover to kill the penalty and seal the victory.

It was also quite a hard-hitting game: these teams don't like each other.

In the 2014 World Games in Denver, the US also beat Canada in pool play, only to lose to the Canadians in the final. So yesterday's match predicts very little.
