CLF looks like he's been working long hours! Hopefully that relates to better on field performance all the way around. I can't imagine the number of hours he works a week, but I bet it eclipses 70 for sure, possibly even 80.

RE: BCJ Fickell Camp Preview
Thanks for sharing. Coach Fickell seems to have a great command of his staff and knows the game well. My hope is that we can see real progress on the field this season. By that, I don't mean 8 or 9 wins. I'd just be pleased to see more frequent defensive stops on third and long...a few offensive rushing attempts exceeding ten yards each game...a couple of long completions per game from Moore...better red zone conversation rates. Give us something to suggest the rebuild is beginning to yield tangible results. His recruiting has been excellent and I'm cautiously optimistic that bodes well for the future of Bearcat football.

RE: BCJ Fickell Camp Preview
Great preview - thank you Chad. I am impressed with your knowledge of the team, the roster, position groups, camp battles, etc. I don't remember if you did this last year with CLF but that is awesome he's making himself available for such an endeavor.

I can't wait until September 1st! I just can't believe this team will not take a big step forward this year. Not just in terms of wins and losses, but in an overall competitiveness, organizational and game day execution standpoint. If the "big uglies" up front can show some stability, gel as a unit, and avoid injuries then that may be the key overall to the season.

RE: BCJ Fickell Camp Preview
its not just that we lost 8 games last year, but most of them were absolute whoopings. even if the win total only improves by a couple, if the losses are at least competitive that would make me hopeful for 2019 and beyond. need to see far less players looking totally lost out there, better game and time management, and less stupid penalties.

last season was worse than my expected worst case scenario. hopefully rock bottom proves to be a sturdy foundation to build on.

Record could easily been 1-11

True. It was a strange season. Having attended in Ann Arbor I thought UC played a very competitive game most of the afternoon. It was hampered at times by some boneheaded mistakes by a rookie coaching staff. But I left that game expecting a more competitive season. At year end, I was glad they won four games but the gaping holes on offense, defense and special teams were impossible to overcome.

I do expect improvement--two more wins and a bowl would be right on track in my estimation. Anything more would suggest a return to great football for 2019 and beyond. Anything less...the jury will have to remain out for another season.

RE: BCJ Fickell Camp Preview
Bowl game is a must this season. 2019 schedule is off the charts difficult with games at Ohio State, Marshall, Houston, USF, and Memphis. Home schedule includes UCLA and UCF. Basically UC has to take advantage of easy an 2018 schedule and 6/7 home games to find a way to get to 6 or more wins. Then hopefully a winning culture allows them to compete with top programs in 2019. Essentially we could be looking at 2020 for UC first real chance at really good season.

I was hoping to hear that they've been practicing to have someone within 15 yards of the corner when Navy runs the option.

First, thanks Chad.

I was looking for a schedule of dates for when UC opens camp on campus, transfers to Higher Ground, and then returns to campus. Didn't find it after several minutes of searching several different places including gobearcats.com .

Does anyone have that schedule that we can post here? Or start a new thread with it?

EXACTLY! Had miami not absolutely melted down they really should have beat us. Also those two 1 point wins off missed pat's likely would have been split 1-1 had we gone to OT, but both could have been lost. and even that 12 point win against austin peay could have been a loss as well had a few breaks gone the other way. our win total was about what i thought ahead of time would be worst case scenario, but it easily could have been much worse. our losses were much worse than could have been expected and even the games we did win were still poor performances agaisnt miserable competition.

we knew ahead of time we didnt have the talent to win the conference, but we should have been a .500 team. fickell and co's learning curve is much greater than i would have expected from a guy who spent so many years learning from Tressel and Meyer. hopefully he gets the hang of it right in time for his talent infusion to take us to a conference title!

RE: BCJ Fickell Camp Preview
We could've finished 1-11 but we didn't. No need to keep driving down that road. Dantonio, Jones and Imposterville (not going to mention Minter) all had a 4 win season during their regime time here. The positive takeaway is that was the low point for each and they had much better success overall. Based on this past trajectory, I have no reason to believe that the same won't happen for our program moving forward under CLF. The recruitment of better talent alone is a reason for optimism let alone a Coach who looks like he sleeps about 4 hours a day and lives at the office to get himself and his program ready for Year 2...

If UC’s WR’s hadn’t dropped some easy passes cry-ami isn’t in that game. There were blown opportunities for both teams. Reality is UC didn’t go 1-11. So let’s stop with the hypotheticals.

We could have just as easily been at six wins if we would have handled business against SMU and cashed in against Michigan. The difference between 4 wins and what we expect this year is not the chasm we think it is. Surely another year of experience, more talent, and some consistency will go a long way in moving this program forward.

When was the last time we had a defensive coordinator stay for more than one season?
