We have never had a President embarrass NATO the way a Trump did today. You iron out differences behind closed doors. He’s actively trying to curry favor with Putin.

By questioning NATO countries' energy deals with Russia? I don't think so.

I think he is trying to remind the countries in NATO of just how valuable their relationship with the US is. Pointing out the disrespect they have shown the US. Good allies would be buying our energy, not purchasing from a nation outside of NATO. Especially the nation NATO has been focused on counteracting after the Warsaw Pact. It also send a message to Putin that the US isn't going to stand by silently while these things occur.

It's obvious that decades of "behind closed doors" hasn't worked.

Time to try public shaming.

As for Putin, I fail to see how chastising the Germans for sending billions to Russia for energy and suggesting they shouldn't would "curry favor" with Pooty-poot.....

Trump: Water is wet and fire is hot.

Mac: Water is not wet, it's dry, fire is not hot, it's cold. What an outrage.

I think you see where I'm going with this.

RE: This was written two days ago........ way prediction.
Quote:Donald Trump and Angela Merkel got off to a prickly start at a NATO summit as the U.S. president blasted Germany over its support for a gas pipeline from Russia, prompting a tart response from the chancellor.

“It’s very sad when Germany makes a massive oil and gas deal with Russia where we’re supposed to be guarding against Russia and Germany goes out and pays billions and billions of dollars a year to Russia,” Trump said before meeting with NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg on Wednesday morning.

Trump pressed on: “If you look at it, Germany is a captive of Russia, because they supply --- they got rid of their coal plants, got rid of their nuclear, they’re getting so much of the oil and gas from Russia. I think it’s something NATO has to look at.”

The broadside came at the opening of a two-day summit..........

https://www.bloombergquint.com/politics/...u-s-allies

So speaking the truth is now called a broadside. Okay.

When it's 10 below in December in Berlin and Russia threatens to cut off the gas supply unless Germany does x, y, or z, who wins?

Before sitting down for the first official meeting of the day, the president engaged in a testy exchange with NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg. He pressed why the U.S. should continue to pay money to the military alliance while the countries purchase energy from Moscow.

Your president is doing his job. Its nice to have a president who is not afraid to do his job and call countries out.

I like it that Trump is putting it all at there. Everyone knows that anything handled "behind closed doors", as you say, would just be leaked to the press afterwards anyway. It's good to call out these other nations that have for too long depended on the US to pay more than it's fair share of NATO costs while they divert resources elsewhere.

Your president is bringing it today:

“But how can you be together when you’re getting energy from the group you want protection from?” Trump responded, using Germany as an example. Trump challenged Stoltenberg to explain why Berlin was getting energy from Russia, and asserted that Germany was “totally controlled” by and “captive to Russia” over a pipeline project.

Totally agree.

Amen! We've taken it up the poop shoot far too long. This is what got him elected in part - he's not a bureaucrat going thorough the motions to pacify everyone. He has an aggressive, robust, performance driven agenda - getting more done in one term than most would in two terms.

Honestly, I don't think most people are informed enough to know or smart enough to connect the dots.

I'll simplify it.

The Germans and the EU vs the Obama administration and his band on idiots for 8 years. Any guesses on who got fricked?

Lol. The Europeans are mad that dad isn’t going to continue to give his adult children their allowance...or that he may ask for something in exchange. Meanwhile, Mach see’s Putin everywhere—including the frozen food section of the grocery store.

Here is the reality dear Mach—(and it’s a reality that more and more Americans are catching on to)—-you may think Trump is crass, and perhaps he is, but he is in there battling for the best interests of the US. We have not seen any president on the world stage put the best interest of the American citizen first in my lifetime. People are noticing this change—-and the vast majority like it.

This pic says all that needs to be said about how President Trump deals with foreign leaders and how Mach's liberal messiah dealt with world leaders. How great is it to have a leader who stands tall for America than a shriveling little punk that bowed down to the rest of the world.

Yep. We've been trying the carrot approach for decades to get the majority of NATO to fulfill their responsibilities and it's got us nowhere. Time to give them a dose of the stick.

Trump said exactly what needed to be said. It isn't an embarrassment. It's a sign of strength.

They really have compromised their security by too much reliance on Russian gas.
