$100MM Fairground Proposal
Quote:A more modest Fairgrounds plan: If last year's $160 million plan to redevelop ye olde Mid-South Fairgrounds seemed too good to be true — well, that was true.
Paul Young, the city's development guru, presented a revised, more modest, roughly $100 million plan to the Memphis City Council on Tuesday, as Tom Charlier reports. The main reason for the change: The Tourism Development Zone (TDZ) estimates were lower than originally expected, Young told me. Even so, the renderings look A+:
Quote:Interesting side note: The revision puts Memphis closer to the very first, $100 million plan for the Fairgrounds presented 13 years ago.
Here's the overview of the revised Fairgrounds proposal:

If they're going to expand Tiger Lane, they better hurry up. Looks like all the land is getting planned away.

It is my understanding two previous proposals for the Fairgrounds were denied by the State Building Commisson.

Ugh. All that discussion to just do a poor man's version of Lipscomb's plan. What a waste.

RE: $100MM Fairground Proposal
This could actually result in more parking with the garages. Most of this is being done in the old Liberty Land area.
Doesn't look like there is going to be any addition to Tiger Lane.

Something needs to happen over there. It’s all wasted space.

He could at least have given me some credit parking garage idea. Made that proposal when we were talking about expanding Tigerlane.

Can't believe some are on Twitter claiming this will be the end of Tiger football as we know it. Or that the "58,000" fans won't be able to deal with the traffic.
You wanna be big time on Saturday with a 3 minute commute out of the stadium. SMH.

I see a parking garage I think that would be helpful.
But anyone complaining about getting out of the liberty bowl hasn't seen bad traffic leaving an event.

Y'all need to respect your elders. If you are lucky, you may get to be a senior citizen one day.

Not us. We like to go back to the Tailgate spot and watch everyone else try and get out while we drink really good coffee.
