I heard Azab on the radio several days ago. I doubt he is even considering playing basketball for years. He's looking at chemo and other therapies. He will be concentrating on surviving, not rebounding.

How about surviving to rebound or rebounding to survive.....IDK kinda seems synonymous 01-wingedeagle

Enoh is only a true-sophomore this year. So yeah, he has 3 years left - but it's very doubtful he can graduate this year.

Brewton has played 2 years of juco and 1 year here. Only 1 year left - which is this season.

Could potentially be 4 even with adding Dandridge, Thomas, and Boyce as scholarship players

3 if Azab's scholly doesn't count against us.
4 if Jayden goes to walk-on as well

Pretty sure we have 7 returning players on scholarship.

One is Azab who I assume will be on Athletic Department scholarship.

So, that leaves us 6 scholarships if none of those guys return for 2019-2020.

I thought Brewton had 2 eligible seasons left and Enoh 3.

My guess would be that they both grad trans this year.

The mention of redshirts leads me to believe that Jaylen and at least one of Lomax or Harris redshirt.

Maybe all 3.

So, let's say 6 minus the two spent on Dandridge and Boyce.

Leaving 4.

Is my math off?

You do math?

All we need is one for the big ticket.

Yeah.

I do.

Knock knock.

The easy answer is two redshirts...

Jayden and Thomas...

It is possible there could be more but those two make sense.

Really, really confused on what the purpose of purposefully going for a "redshirt" is in our basketball context. It doesn't save you any scholarships.

I think we can asssume it wouldn't be used on any of the returning players, the team isn't nearly good enough to be sitting 4-star recruits so go ahead and remove Jones/Lomax/Harris from consideration, and both Jayden and Wingette already did a year at prep school..

Plus, if you really plan on adding 5-star players you are going to be recruiting over the "redshirt" guys after their year off. Why even use the scholarship if you plan on recruiting well?

Wisconsin used to redshirt guys and by the time they left they were really good players.

You have to believe you can develop guys and that guys have the potential to be good players.

Imagine if Martin redshirted his first year and still had 2 years of eligibility left.

Wisconsin's recruiting strategy was VERY different though, they weren't targeting 5-star, potential one and done players. In addition, their style of play was very slow it down and tactically grind it out - the type of style you run when you don't have the raw talent and depend on coaching tactics. Penny has said he plans on being more like the "houston rockets" - a style that depends on having star level talent.

JM has been a great player, but if he had 2 more years of eligibility I would expect him to spend that extra year coming off the bench as a super-sub if our team is really going to be 2nd weekend good.

Agree to disagree on Martin...An all conference level player should be good enough to get us to the second weekend and unless we are bringing in Duke\UK level talent every year you are going to need some veterans who can produce.

Remember Cals last 4 years we had no more than 1 one and done guy and we seemed to be very successful those years.

Bottom line is don't underestimate good experienced players...

No per 247 Andre was closer to 200. Both are 3 Star guys, but Boyce has a higher composite rating (0.8861 versus 0.8556).

Edit: If you go by the National ranking, Andre would have been ranked higher.
