Such bull****.

The AD cuts positions to reduce salary outlay, and gives himself a raise.

He claims that football must raise more money, but sabotages football revenue that by vetoing a very winnable second buy game against a lower tier p5 school, vetoing a home game against an instate school that would draw a big crowd, instead hand picking our last OOC opponent to be against possibly the worst drawing opponent he could find, then moving that game to a time slot where fewer people will be able to attend for no other reason it appears than to reduce the number of people who could attend.

Don’t know if it’s a conspiracy or stupidity. After some dealings with him it seems more stupidity.

Bye he knew the revenue was down when the TV contract was signed over a year ago so it’s not like it’s a new revelation. Sounds like and excuse to justify. Btw nice raise!!!

The loss of TV revenue is a real thing. It isn’t a conspiracy. It isn’t stupidity on anyone’s part at UAB. When revenue drops, expenses must also. That fact goes against those who have an agenda to promote, but it remains a fact.

It wasn't a surprise, though. It's still incompetence to hire someone for a new position and then turn around and eliminate it before he's had a chance to start. Malice or incompetence, either way it should get someone in a leadership position fired.

Cuts sometimes have to be made and are painful of course. The blow that was given to Zac Schrieber, however, seems evidence of a lack of foresight and leadership at UAB. Unbelievable what has been done to a hard working and good man.

More to it than what is being posted here or said publicly. All I can say is remain vigilant.

The AAC will help but it won’t solve our Internal issues.

I don’t know if it’s a conspiracy but I see a guy flailing at the deep end. Between the opening game football schedule and the fake out hire of the guy from Samford there have been some serious screwups.

If it’s not a conspiracy, then it’s an absolute mismanagement of our program. Either way, it’s bad news.

Won't solve everything, but it sure would make a whole lot of things easier. Hopefully all of our various facility upgrades, new BJCC stadium, and football's continued success will make us a quality candidate if a spot opens up.

I know a way to trim another $400k off the budget. We could replace Mark with a Magic 8 ball and a Dart Board for about $70 total.

I’m not big on conspiracy theories, but how can you explain the Savannah state game?

Any interest in giving specifics? The worst part is that this is showing up elsewhere to make UAB look bad.

The insiders of the board should stop playing coy with information. If you don't want to post the info on the board, then create a burner account on Twitter.

Or find a journalist to write a story.

I don't see how keeping the cards close to the chest helps in the long run.

Ever been fired or get someone fired? Also how do you know people made not talking to certain media members? I know when Marla talked to John and it wasn’t yesterday. Happened all throughout 14-17. Articles and columns get released at specific times for reason. This is a marathon. Not a sprint.

RE: BOT Justification Article on Staff Reduction
Wishing the best for you guys but there's a legislation the SEC is trying to push to be voted on this fall in that baseball AND softball to get another full time assistant. Right now each one has 2 full time assistants each but the SEC is trying to get a vote for there to be 3 each. If that passes you figure that's another $75-100K combined needed for those 2 positions but not sure if it would start the spring of 2019 or the fiscal year 2019-2020. As well this upcoming football season saw football teams being allowed to hire another full time on-the-field assistant so now there's 10 asst and 1 HC for football (and not to mention all the other staff positions (Ops guy, high school relations, analyst, player development). That hire there is another $60k at least and possibly up to $100K give or take.

We're no more SEC than you are. I don't see that it affects us, other than diluting the talent pool perhaps.

The biggest reason to be kind of closed mouthed and to speak in generalities is that putting out too much detail makes it easier for the administration to narrow the potential source down, using "Who knew about that?". Over time they can then put out red herrings, different info spins to different people, in an attempt to ID who has been talking. Saying as little as possible helps to prevent outing a source and getting them fired.

I talked to Whitmire and Archibald all through the shutdown, and fed them anything I thought was interesting or might help them in any way. I had no way to know what they had been given, and so I never knew when something might be a useful puzzle piece. A lot of people did something similar, and if they worked for UAB it was worth their job for that to become known.

What's hard about this one is that it was a limited strike, and they had a least a plausible sounding reason to cut staff. The people who have been around the longest get paid more, so hiring a newbie cuts payroll. I don't believe that it's just a happy accident that doing so allows them to continue to rid the athletic department of anyone with the taint of Gene Bartow, though.

The one that there is no plausible explanation for is Savannah St. on a Thursday night. That's going to cut attendance at our home opener in half, and there simply is no good reason for the team chosen or the Thursday night scheduling. You can bet that Clark sees that and hates it... and that frustrating him in order to encourage him to move on sooner than he otherwise would is part of the plan.

I've heard that we could have scheduled Virginia, a very beatable P5 team, making an exception and taking a second buy game. That, all by itself, would have more than paid for the salaries of the people who were recently cut. Do you seriously think that Bill Clark would rather play Savannah St. than Virginia? I don't.

A lot of people who know me used to give me crap about being the UAB conspiracy guy. Then the shutdown happened, and Whitmire published a lot of documentation that made it clear what was happening... so yes, I do believe in conspiracies. If you want me to stop, start doing the right thing by the program and quit sticking the knife in. Simple.
