Over time they can then put out red herrings, different info spins to different people, in an attempt to ID who has been talking. Saying as little as possible helps to prevent outing a source and getting them fired.

While that's true, it's also possible to lay a trail of bread crumbs pointing to the wrong guy. You know, like the ******* who was responsible for getting you run off from UAB. Not to say that anything like that actually, you know, happened.

Restoring football was not the only satisfying outcome of the whole #FreeUAB adventure.

As for bitter old posters carrying on about "conspiracy theories" because it's funny and cute to act all contrarian on a message board: we have the dossier. Remember Sard-Verbinnen? It's not a "theory" when you have it all in writing. We have their playbook. That's not a metaphor: we have their actual playbook. And all of these actions are right out of it.

They're coming back for another round. A little smarter this time, but once again they've chosen pretty risible instruments as the spearhead.

Here's a free one, Ray and Clay: y'all were better off with Mackin's chair empty than with a moronic doughnut addict in his place. You've only got 17 months until retirement. You're going to lose this round, too.

RE: BOT Justification Article on Staff Reduction
there were other options out there home and away. The home options were all FCS but better than SSU. One problem with MIs scheduling strategy is that it limits your options as you get closer to our season. He likes to hold dates open and not schedule far into the future. From his lips, not my opinion.

We did have options though other than SVU though but "he got a great deal". Now factor in lost revenue and how good a deal is it now? bet you dint think that one through. Moving it to Thursday hurts as well. Yea we have had some descent attendances on Thursday nights. Against good opponents on TV! Now go back and look at the attendance of our other FCS opponent we played on a Thursday night. Hey, do a buy game against a mediocre P5 program and not cut anyone. LOL

Couple of notes.

Someone is either very stupid or not being truthful.

Revenue cut was 2016. He just now figured that out?

Mark / Carter knew over a YEAR ago that revenue would be down 800K. Knew about the budget concern over six months ago. He waited until after he got a new contract to make the cuts.

It gets better. With the new TV deal revenue is now up $400K. Announced in March. Now it's not an 800K drop it's only 400K.

Knew it was going down and knew it was coming back up then gave yourself a raise then made cuts. "cuts eyes at admin building"

Still pissed what happened to the guy from Samford. If I did that HR department would call me in and discipline me.

Reminds me of a conversation I had with him at an event before last season. He was telling me how everyone was calling trying to schedule us and how many options he had. Knowing who we had on campus I said "you know all that stops after the first game and they see us, right?" All I got was an astonished look

There are a few impressions from an ex-UAB financial guy. true UAB financial year does not start till September but now is usually the time that next years budget is prepared and approved by internal financial affairs(FA). If you budget is under - new unfilled positions are often frozen by central FA over the objects of the department

On the other hand VPs/ADs often use such budget concerns as a weapon. At UAB is often impossible to fire an employee but it is easy using financial shortfalls as an excuse to eliminate a position. In times of financial cutbacks, my financial staff would draft a sh*t list of positions and often be very accurate. In other words our mini-whale could be going after someone he dislikes

I was addressing the way it was worded in the article...which makes it sound like July 2 is the start of UAB's fiscal year.

Quote:...UAB director of athletics Mark Ingram had to cut 11 others in his department before the start of UAB's new fiscal year on July 2.

It's either inaccurate or a badly written sentence. That's the only point I was making.

Your scope of "mini" is too broad. 03-lmfao

The AAC will help but it won’t solve our Internal issues.

Why did you say "will" vs "would" here? The chance of UAB, USM or any other school going to the AAC at this point in the near or far future is pretty slim, wouldn't you say?

RE: BOT Justification Article on Staff Reduction
The fiscal year for both of the state's budgets is Oct 1 to Sept 30 of the next year. All state appropriations from the state legislature are made on that schedule. Perhaps UAB can operate on another schedule of its own, and this year July 1 was on a Sunday so the first weekday was July 2nd.

It has become a common practice for many state school districts to get loans from local banks during the summer to tide them through until the new budget money comes in on Oct 1st so they can open school in August. Paying back these loans becomes the first order of business every fall since it all must be done again the next summer.

UAB's fiscal year is the same as every other government agency of the State of Alabama

If all state government agencies have a fiscal year of July 1st to June 30th, how do they square up with state funding based on the Oct 1st to Sept 30th fiscal year? Maybe it would be better to move the state's FY to match the FY of its agencies. Or move BOTH to the calendar year - Jan to Dec.

03-banghead UAB and every other state agency's fiscal year starts October 1st.
