Imagine the notches are removed and a player runs into a wall where a notch had been. The players attorney would hammer UC and it's insurer with the "Notches were for safety and you removed them!"

I always thought that removing the first few rows of seats was the only aspect that improved safety, and the notches were implemented not as a safety measure but to allow a regulation soccer field. I hope we can fill in the notches while leaving the rest of the wall intact... I believe that would satisfy most people.

It was a safety measure as well as helping with soccer since the corner of the end zone didn't really offer much room for players to stop after they left the end zone. We did get the Mardy play, but I will admit I'm surprised there weren't a few injuries crashing into the wall.

The safety thing was just excuse so the administration didn't look like complete lickspittle for the Lindner family.

I agree. There's few billionaires I'd say this about, but what's good for the Lindners is good for the people (of Cincinnati).

The crime is that UC paid for this, not FCC.

When General Electric donates to UC they know they benefit from their relationship with the school. Lindner benefits from having a good business school in their backyard. I’m guessing Great American gets first dibs on the Lindner Honors program.

My understanding is that FCC paid for it, but then held on to 100% of the concessions money until they gained that back at which point UC and FCC began splitting concession money.

Of course, the argument then is that they lost out on that initial concession money, therefore UC paid for it. Then the counterargument to that would be that the concession money wouldn't have existed in the first place had FCC not played at Nippert.

I see your point, but wouldn't exactly describe it as a "crime".

Regardless, I like the idea that Tuba had, replace the notches up to the point where the lowest row is now. Brings back the full horseshoe shape while still keeping everything a bit wider and safer. Win win.

If the LHP kids are working for Great American, they're doing something horribly, horribly wrong. Many of the people I knew in that program in the mid-00's are well above that level of corporate/geographic/economic standing.

Do you personally want to take that risk? Especially with the AD well in the red?

My point was that you were short-sighted...not that the Lindner's explicitly stated they would yank their donations.

It's smart business and smart politics to keep major donors happy. They pay, we accommodate.

You tick them off, you are less likely to benefit from their largess in the future.

That's just common sense.

Which you seem to lack.

It really doesn't matter. They are in Nippert for the next 2.5 years and UC splits concessions 50/50 while getting all parking. It's a win for UC hands down.

RE: Nippert Stadium
I'm interested in what the next changes to Nippert will be. For instance, will MLS require a grass field?

"Berding said some of the issues the club is looking at -- based on recommendations or requirements from MLS -- include new turf"

...

According to the university, in response to a public records request, there are currently no bids or RFPs for changes to the stadium or playing field and no contracts have been changed or updated in the last seven months since FCC made its pitch to the MLS expansion board back in December.

...

Any major changes, such as the locker room renovations (including installing showers) and new turf, would need to be done after the UC football season; however, it's a short window until the MLS season begins in March.

Doubt it is real grass. The other teams who play in NFL stadiums are on field turf.

Athletic Dept brought up the safety issue in the past, well before FCC. Just never acted upon it.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure that was a point of comment for the Athletic Department when Mardy Gilyard's helmet did some orthodontic work to a pre-teen in Row 4 in 2008.

When General Electric donates to UC they know they benefit from their relationship with the school. Lindner benefits from having a good business school in their backyard. I’m guessing Great American gets first dibs on the Lindner Honors program.

If the LHP kids are working for Great American, they're doing something horribly, horribly wrong. Many of the people I knew in that program in the mid-00's are well above that level of corporate/geographic/economic standing.

Great American is a Fortune 500 company. They must be doing something right. They probably have positions for the highly qualified...though your point is duly noted.

According to the contract, FCC fronted the moneyandUC paid it back thru concessions.

My understanding is that FCC paid for it, but then held on to 100% of the concessions money until they gained that back at which point UC and FCC began splitting concession money.

Of course, the argument then is that they "lost" out on that initial concession money, therefore you frame it as UC paid for it. Then the counterargument to that would be that the concession money wouldn't have existed in the first place had FCC not played at Nippert.
