Fired Professor After Defending Conservatives' Free Speech Won His Court Cas
Quote:Students are not the only ones in danger of having their free speech rights threatened.

The Wisconsin Supreme Court ruled that Marquette University professor John McAdams was wrongly fired after writing a critical blog post about a student teacher.

McAdams, a conservative professor at the Catholic university, criticized student teacher Cheryl Abbate for banning any comments against gay marriage in her philosophy class.

Abbate was approached by a student who opposed gay marriage and suggested that she needed to have more open discussions. Abbate was extremely opposed to his views and banned the student from discussing them in her class:

“You can have whatever opinions you want but I can tell you right now, in this class homophobic comments, racist comments, and sexist comments will not be tolerated.”

She added that the student was free to drop the class if he didn't like what she said.

After the blog was posted, McAdams was suspended from the school without tenure. The school released a statement about the situation, claiming that McAdams violated his contract and the student teacher's privacy by releasing her name and contact information. Another main reason they cited for his termination was the amount of hate Abbate received.

McAdams initially sued Marquette and the court ruled in favor of the university. However, the ruling was appealed as Marquette withheld important information from the committee, and it appeared before the Wisconsin Supreme Court who ruled in favor of the professor.
