RE: Western Kentucky Recruiting of Bassey
I've never coached beyond the 2nd-grade level, so I am no authority.

But my unqualified assessment is that Coaches Purnell, Capel and Taylor all took a much less refined set of ingredients and turned them into squads that, by the end of the season, you expected them to be impactful -- not just in the conferences tournaments but also beyond.

By his third season with us, Coach Jones had plenty of talent available to him (at least on the starting 6, if not the depth -- but that's at least partly on him). Nevertheless, the teams that he put out on the court played only well enough that, by the end of the season, we were all just hoping they would somehow catch fire at the right time.

I would love to see Coach Jones guide this team through a season in which we are once again in serious consideration for an at-large bid. That, for me, would be his redemption threshold. He done enough now on the recruiting front to make that possible. Let's see him do it on the coaching front.

The funny thing is Jones and Stansbury almost mirror each other the first 2 seasons at their respective school. Jones started from less than what WKY had and produced a little more/about the same.

So, if you believe Stansbury is getting it done, you must believe that Jones "was" getting it done.

I have not been on the fire Jones train. However, there is far more excitement in Bowling Green than there is in Norfolk. Pretty tough for you to even consider arguing that.

I wouldn't know because I haven't been to Bowling Green to gauge, but this is the same point in the career that were were in the NIT with fans going nuts and selling out the Ted and then traveling to NY to see the team play in the NIT semi's.

These situations aren't that comparable at all. Bryant Stith had a long tenure in the NBA, won state titles as a head coach and has a good relationship with Boo Williams.

His resume is not even in the same hemisphere to Bassey's guy. We were all confident in that hire whether or not his sons came to ODU.

Yeah, that post probably doesn't even warrant a response. He knows there's no comparison.

And Bryant Stith played for Jeff Jones, correct? And was a basketball coach, correct?

Right. The difference is that we aren't landing 5 star freshman. Dajour is close though.

Is that what youre hanging your hat on? Hoping they never see the court so we truly dont have to compete against them?

RE: Western Kentucky Recruiting of Bassey
Shouldn't you apply the same standards for recruiting to other schools that you apply to ODU? We've heard for the last few years how it's JJ's fault that highly rated recruits didn't work hard enough to get on the court, or that impact players got in trouble and couldn't play or left the team, or that highly rated transfers quit. Wouldn't you hold it against JJ if he recruited a bunch of 5-star guys who couldn't ever get eligible? Would you consider that a recruiting win if they never played for ODU?

Its funny that you comment that we have to wait and see on our recruits, yet WKY gets credit for 5 star centers that either didn't play (Robinson-listed in FBI report) or Bassey (eligibility is questionable at this point).

FWIW, I hope Bassey plays for WKY and we beat them. Why would we want anything differently?

Hollingsworth and Anderson are playing for WKU. They aren't 5 stars but they turned down some serious High Major schools. Seriously though...Are you Jeff Jones?

The guy's clearly a master recruiter. I occasionally hear whispers that the NCAA is "looking into" the program. If there was something there other than what I'll call legal sleaze, I'd of thought it would have come out by now. I imagine every other CUSA school feels the same, too.

Not necessarily. He hasn't been there that long and it could be out of the NCAA's hands since there's an ongoing FBI investigation.

Just because we haven’t had to play against their 5-stars doesn’t mean we won’t eventually. You think Stansbury recruits these kids with no intentions of them ever sniffing the court?!?!? Just because he’s struck out with his first two you think they’ll all pan out the same? That’s funny there

Well, you moved the goalposts. Anderson was a great mid major recruit. Hollingsworth is a pretty good one; about the level of Goodwin.

Stansbury is obviously a great recruiter, but why would you care who committed to Western Kentucky if they can't play? I mean, if he starts getting 5 star gets without baggage then we can talk about all the 5 star kids he got to play for him. But, at this point, 1 of them didnt (and was part of FBI probe) and the other is being heavily scrutinized at the moment. (I have no idea if he's going to suit up or not)

Hollingsworth was Mr. Basketball for the state of Kentucky in 2017. Anderson was the number 1 ranked recruit out of Louisiana.

List of offers for Anderson:

Florida, Texas A&M, LSU, NC State, Arkansas, Baylor, TCU

You're way off.

I just said Anderson was a great mid major recruit. He was borderline top 50.
Why didn't you list the offers for Hollingsworth? What would I be off on?
