The city of Memphis (not the metro area) has actually been losing population the last few years. People moving outside of the city limits.

It's never good when more people (who have a choice) leave than come.

If you love somebody enough... you'll even follow them to Memphis. Doesn't this song kind of insinuate that Memphis isn't a place you'd particularly want to be unless you HAD to go for love?
