Rather the Brett Bielema, how about Mike Leach. He's not going to be at Wazzu forever, and that would shake up KU. Bielema is B-O-R-I-N-G football, and boring interviews. Leach is not that.

The description of a funky offense to compete with less than top P5 talent sounds like what Snyder has done for years at K State. I think leach could bring a style to make KU exciting. And unlike Texas Tech or Wazzu (or K State), once the program becomes somewhat successful, it is a flagship and can start to recruit.

The next hire is also critical for KU as they try to position to ride OU's coattails out of the B12.

Bielema, Jim McElwain, Butch Jones, Les Miles and Rich Rodriguez are all recently fired coaches with strong pedigrees that could get Kansas out of the cellar of the Big 12. However, it will be hard to get "name" coaches to either take the job or leave their current posts for a long rebuild job at Kansas. Iowa State had great success getting Matt Campbell from Toledo. Jason Candle has continued that success there, he might be worth a look. Tim Beck, a former coach at Kansas, could get a look too. If Mark Helfrich has some success with the Chicago Bears, he might jump back into the college ranks for the right opportunity as well.

Nah, Helfrich is best suited to be an O-coordinator and not a head coach, same as Bill Callahan and Norv Turner.

I don't think Bielema is a fit for Kansas but the others might work. Having the established trust with high school coaches would go a very long way.

If you don't get a retread then you are looking at G5 coach who sees KU as their best choice and that would be a G5 who had a good year but didn't get better offers and thinks he has a couple year rebuild.

Or you are looking at a coordinator who thinks he's about to be on thin ice.
