C-USA Athletic Department Financials
USA Today published an updated (2016-17) list of NCAA athletic department finanicals:
http://sports.usatoday.com/ncaa/finances/

C-USA Rankings:
Code:
RK  School                 Conf    Total Revenue  Total Expenses    Total Allocated       % Allocated
67  Old Dominion           C-USA   $46,203,813    $46,181,753       $28,681,512        62.08
76  Charlotte              C-USA   $37,931,802    $33,246,728       $25,709,896        67.78
84  Florida Atlantic       C-USA   $34,509,259    $34,102,683       $23,953,161        69.41
87  Middle Tennessee       C-USA   $34,040,334    $34,040,334       $22,376,798        65.74
89  Florida International  C-USA   $33,389,929    $33,003,699       $24,028,758        71.96
94  North Texas            C-USA   $32,150,203    $36,363,381       $21,398,461        66.56
95  Texas-El Paso          C-USA   $31,781,343    $32,039,189       $18,486,004        58.17
100  Western Kentucky      C-USA   $30,439,066    $30,439,067       $16,853,917        55.37
104  Marshall              C-USA   $29,287,471    $30,342,248       $14,345,674        48.98
107  Texas-San Antonio     C-USA   $28,772,631    $30,104,385       $17,385,928        60.43
124  Alabama at Birmingham C-USA   $24,795,218    $23,803,547       $15,480,428        62.43
125  Louisiana Tech        C-USA   $24,722,695    $23,828,481       $10,687,030        43.23
126  Southern Mississippi  C-USA   $23,984,639    $25,251,618       $8,832,604         36.83

FYI: Total Allocated = "The sum of student fees, direct and indirect institutional support and state money allocated to the athletics department, minus certain funds the department transferred back to the school"

These ranking to me are misleading due to the "Allocated" funds. It's amazing how much some of the other schools depend on student fees and money from the school itself. Ours is the lowest in the conference at around 36%.

Here are the CUSA ranking minus the allocated funds:
Code:
RK  School                  Conf     Total Revenue minus Allocated Funds    Total Revenue   Total Expenses  Total Allocated
67  Old Dominion            C-USA    $17,522,301                            $46,203,813     $46,181,753     $28,681,512
126 Southern Mississippi    C-USA    $15,152,035                            $23,984,639     $25,251,618     $8,832,604
104 Marshall                C-USA    $14,941,797                            $29,287,471     $30,342,248     $14,345,674

100 Western Kentucky        C-USA    $13,585,149                            $30,439,066     $30,439,067     $16,853,917

The most important number is ticket sales. That describes whether there is a fan base supporting the school or whether there are few fans thus making it necessary to suck up school funds, etc.

I guess my point being, with that garbage nobody should be surprised at terrible numbers.

I think it's pretty safe to say that there isn't very much enthusiasm within the fan base right now. Unfortunately I don't see that changing any time soon.

Aparrently our finances are so bad, we have to hire homeless people to write stories for our website. Nice editing.

It will help if we can get our undergraduate enrollment up. Last record I see we were at 11,779 undergraduate students.

RE: C-USA Athletic Department Financials
Here are some quick attendance numbers.

Code:
Year         G1         G2         G3         G4         G5         G6        AVG
----    -------    -------    -------    -------    -------    -------    -------
2017     22,761     24,337     21,907     21,970     19,101     20,189     21,710
2016     29,509     27,905     28,325     31,275     28,347     26,164     28,587
2015     36,641     23,042     26,430     28,745     25,581     29,568     28,334
2014     26,448     21,836     24,756     23,343     22,949     17,103     22,739

IIRC, the new AD said that the way we count tickets have changed. I think it is just pure ticket sales. I remember in an interview he remarked that even though the numbers were lower, the revenue was actually a bit better.

Probably explains why prior to last year you would see a group of 15-20 people outside the stadium "scalping" tickets for $10 each but when you actually looked at the tickets it had a listed price of $5. It was stated in 2016 and prior that large groups of tickets were given out at no charge or $5 a ticket to be distributed to charities/groups. IMO those unused tickets were the ones being scalped for the $10 each as it was the same little group re-selling them in front of the Hub on gamedays. The whole time I was wondering how in the heck (and why) would they have what appeared to be as many as 50 tickets each scalping them for $10.
Now that those freebies are gone people are now forced to pay closer to full price resulting in the higher revenue....1000 "group rate" tickets at $5 (but probably less) = $5000 in sales at most. 500 regular priced tickets at $20 = $10,00 in sales.....simple math there with half the amount of butts in seats but double the profit

You are forgetting concessions. Less people = less concession revenue. Also, sometimes when a family shells out $80 for 4 tickets vs $20, they may also spend less on concessions. In that case, same amount of people can equal less concession revenue.

The geniuses in the AD have this all figured out though.

In 2004 the fan spent $4.50 per announced attendance on concessions at a SEC venue. If that figure is $5 now (likely higher) that revenue is lost with shrinking actuals. So Goblet can ring the ticket profit bell all day long while fewer fans stand in never moving lines to buy a $4 water and SUNWACUSA hat to Aramark's dismay. The shell game continues.
