Villanova? You’re telling me the Big East is not a Power Conference?

Point of order: UConn field hockey plays under the Big East banner as an affiliate member. That national championship should be filed under the Big East and bump their total to 2.

P5...thats what I was responding too. The Big East is a power conference but not in the P5.

Well, that doesn't make any sense. If UConn is Big East for field hockey, than obviously the Big East should get credit for that win.

That is a reasonable argument - my counter is that the athletic program as a whole that supports that team is NOT in the Big East (although many might wish it to be so).

A schools identity is tied to it's overall conference membership - not one off affiliations.

However, I will prepare a second listing, based on the conf/sport (ie Summit will go from two championships to zero).

There is no NCAA champion in P5 football so take off Alabama.

Yes, if you want to include FBS football it should just say "national champions".

I mean, that's fine, just the AAC doesn't sponsor field hockey so it seems kind of silly to credit them with a field hockey national championship. It'd be like if BC won the title in ice hockey and talking about the ACC producing championship ice hockey instead of Hockey East.

RE: NCAA 2017-18 Champions
If we're crediting the actual league that sponsored the NCAA Champion in a specific sport and not the overall affiliation, Denver's NCAA skiing title would not be credited to the Summit League (since the Summit does not sponsor skiing, but credit the Rocky Mountain Intercollegiate Skiing Association -RMISA)
