NCAA revenues
USA Today is out with their NCAA school revenue and expenses. http://sports.usatoday.com/ncaa/finances/

Here is how we rank within our conference.

JMU $48.2m
Delaware $40.8m
W&M $28.4m
Towson $26.9m
UNCW $16.4m
CofC $13m

As we know, JMU (37m) and Delaware (33m) get a lot of revenue from student fees. We get 14m. More students = more money.

Looking a little deeper, JMU has over 3m in ticket sales! We are at 950k.
Contributions: W&M 5.2m, JMU 2.4m, everyone else is <2m

NCAA revenues
I wonder how that would look if we factored in the many millions of dollars donated by our Zables, Plumeris, etc.

We need to compare apples to apples and oranges to oranges.

If we exclude JMU and UD (and I don't think they're leaving but what do I know), the only two public schools remaining who play football are:

W&M: $28.401 million
Towson: $26.989 million

I don't think that's a statistically significant difference. Elon is private so I guess they're not included in this data. Given the size of the school, I imagine their revenue is lower but their whole business model is different.

To compare W&M and Towson to UNCW and CofC we need a way to back the football revenues out of the total to get to basketball-only numbers. I would be stunned it we match either of those schools in what is essentially their marquee sport. (Again, no data on NE, Hofstra and Drexel.)

I realize the comment above was in jest but I think it's important that we keep in mind the magnitude of the mission our Athletic Department is taking on.

In addition to more students, JMU has 18 varsity athletic programs, Delaware 21. W&M has 23. Towson has 19 teams.
