Charlotte makes key hire for #2 in the AD
I'm surprised a fellow Niner hasn't threaded this here yet. Everyone knows we've woefully under-preformed in our time here for FB and MBB. Mike Hill is taking steps to right the ship, and he made a huge hire for his #2.

Hill lured away Syracuse's #2, Chris Fuller, to Charlotte in the same role. Fuller had been at Syracuse for 2 years after a decade plus at UT (last 7 years were a Senior level role).

Between Hill and Fuller, we have almost 40 years of experience in the SEC at the top of our AD. #SECofbust 03-2thumbsup

MT made a similar hire this week. Hired David Blackburn former Vice Chancellor and Director of Athletics at Chattanooga (who was also a longtime assistant AD at UT). I bet they know each other well.

An overwhelming majority of UT alums wanted Blackburn hired as the AD there in Knoxville both times. Will be interesting to see if the Board attempts to push Massaro out over the next couple of years in favor of Blackburn.

I saw that for MT, solid hire as well.

Why would the board attempt to pus Massaro out?

Good stuff! Looks like the niners are making progress now that they've broken Rose's chains.

This hire makes me really excited. It is clear that Hill didn't trust the talent in the AD to fulfill his vision (no surprise). I expected a new #2, but I certainly didn't expect us to pull one in the same role at a power conference school. I finally believe that we are going to see our athletic department being run like a true business instead of treated like a Title IX toy box.

Why would the board attempt to pus Massaro out?

Number one reason is fundraising. Under CM, fundraising has not been where it should be and the guy just hired has more gravitas than CM does so to get Blackburn in the AD chair CM has to move on or be moved. Either that or Blackburn is a one or two year rental.

The bigger problem is the President. Whatever the university achieves it does so in spite of the Prez.

Charlotte "athletics" is fine (not bad at all) overall, but Charlotte football and basketball (the only 2 sports most people think about) both need to show improvement this season. I think they both will actually.

No NCAA appearances from any teams last year and only like 2 in last three years, both from men's soccer. That's not "fine". That's bad.

It's okay to admit you're bad when steps are being taken for correct it.

clt ranks Charlotte sports in ease of improvement>

Wbb- Karen will make it happen
Msoc already good, needs to make a NCAA run again
M baseball good, and is improving without move to cusa
M golf, once elite needs to get under par
Mbb sanchize seems to be doing well, getting withers would be huge
Fb- with lambert needing a bowl game win to survive, this will be a rebuild. Would love to see lambert with a position in the ad.

Golf was in within last 3 years, means soccer was, track and field are good, baseball is above average. It's ok to not always trash your school.
