It's all peaches and cream until the season starts. Always is in any coach's first season.

I figure he's got 2 years to produce and at that point, if the results are similar to the last 4 seasons the mood of the fanbase will start to turn sour.

He'll have a veteran team this year to go for a NCAA bid.

I disagree. If the fan base perceives a hire as a bad one, the negativity is high before a game is even played. That was certainly the case with Tubby. And I believe it was justified, as was his firing.

Pretty much everyone is on board with Penny and wants him to succeed. So he'll have more latitude than someone else might have. But he'll have to win eventually. I'd agree with your assessment of needing to produce in year 2, and by produce I'd say a tournament bid with the type of talent he's bringing in. If it's NIT this year and next, people will start to turn on him.

He will get a little more rope than Pastner as long as he is recruiting at a high level.

I think he would’ve thr toast of the town as long as his teams don’t underachieve. Josh got a lot of support until people lost faith in his ability to achieve result with the talent. Plus Josh got extra sensitive to people trying to help him. What I love about penny is that he is hungry to win as much as the fans. If he keeps that hunger then he will always work on improving his craft and the results will follow. Would we be happy if his run in Memphis was like Cals at Kentucky? 1 chip in 10 years despite 32 players in the league?

The same competitive drive that propelled him to be an NBA All-Star will serve him well as a college coach.

Heck yeah. One NC plus a lot of elite 8s and Sweet 16s would be fantastic.

Interesting. I remember one guy a few weeks ago saying he wouldn't post anymore until the Tigers won a hoops nat'l championship. Probably just a coincidence.

It is very difficult to even imagine our last two coaches introduced at a rap concert with a song bearing his name.
