Question re: Charlotte football
Hey Niners - quick question...

I'm bored at work and was taking a look at your 2018 updated roster, and saw that Chris Reynolds (QB) is on the team. Reynolds played for my high school, and was (in my opinion) a VERY underrated, under-recruited player. I think the fact that he is 5'11" is what did him in recruiting-wise. I also think he thought about maybe playing baseball in college.

But from what I remember, the kid has an absolute ROCKET for an arm, and is extremely mobile. Very fast kid.

Is he on scholarship? Do you think he'll factor into the Niner QB competition at all?

Just curious.

Per Coach Lambert there will be a competition this summer between him, Hassan Klugh, and the Miami transfer Evan Sheriffs.

I believe Sheriffs is going to get the nod but Reynolds might be the future for 49ers if he decides to stay after Lambert is fired.

Thanks for the info.

I don't want to go crazy here, but I honestly see glimpses of Russell Wilson from that kid. Could end up being a steal for Charlotte.

Oh - and I noticed you didn't mention Mic Roof in Lambert's QB assessment. He flipped from ECU to Charlotte if I recall correctly. Is he not panning out?

RE: Question re: Charlotte football
Reynolds beat out Klugh (our QB from last year) and started in the Spring Game. He looked pretty good, I too expect Sheriffs to win the job this fall but Reynolds has played himself into the conversation.

Definitely a redshirt this year, I would imagine he is probably 6th on the depth chart behind Brooks Barden and Joe Thompson.

Way OT, but is Charlotte ever going to expand their stadium past 15K?

RE: Question re: Charlotte football
We're bringing in 2,500 temporary seats for the first two home games vs Fordham and App and selling SRO tickets for the latter. Nothing's been announced but with a much more aggressive AD now I think it will happen sooner rather later.

Reynolds looked solid during the spring game, whatever that is worth. I have heard from other Davie County folks that Reynolds was way overlooked in recruiting. Glad he decided to walk on with us.

No, he went to my HS (c/o 2000). #DCAW

If Chris Reynolds isn't on scholarship yet, he'll get there. Mic Roof, rumor was he was quitting football and would become a regular student. For now he's still on the roster, but doesn't seem like he'll stay there.

There is a shot Klugh gets moved to a skill position. I think it comes down to Reynolds or Evan Shirreffs (Miami transfer).

As far as expansion goes, Mike Hill will get it sorted out. He's added $9 million more to our part of our exponential campaign, which puts our responsibility up to $49 million. We have already hit the $40 million mark.

Probably, but we have bigger fish to fry. We’ve got to get rid of the current football coaches and get someone better. Mike Hill will get that done, but not until 2019.
We get a little buzz going and we’ll look to expand.

It’s really a shame that previous AD thought that getting the program would be enough. We’ve wasted five years.

clt says expansion will start within three years, likely going to 35k. The perfect size for non sec fb moving forward.

RE: Question re: Charlotte football
The impact of new AD Mike Hill cannot be understated. He still has to deliver on a lot of his promises, but you can already feel the Charlotte AD starting to turn (like a barge - slowly but surely) after years of "benign neglect" under Judy Rose (per the local beat writer). Results are not yet here this early in the game, but the ambition and action taking are already very noticeable. The AD hires so far have been very impressive. Facilities and fundraising being kicked up a notch too.

I have it on very good authority that the answer to this is yes.
