2018-19 women's basketball roster
The new roster is online. Three veterans are no longer listed on the team unfortunately.
Gabrielle Stanton and Shani Rainey aren't coming back for their senior seasons, and Gabby Ozoude isn't back either. Of the three, I'm particularly disappointed not to see Rainey back - I think she would have been the secret weapon for the women if she was healthy. We can overcome the loss of the other two if the 13 we have on the roster are healthy.

And there are 14, not 13, names included on the on-line roster, including Shani Rainey.
Maybe you saw an earlier incomplete roster?

The women's basketball team will be the strongest Rice team for 2018-2019 in all sports. I have a contact in South Alabama and they regret passing on an opportunity to hire Tina Langley before she came to Rice. I predict that after this coming year she will be in demand.

I don't see Stanton as much of a loss, and she probably realized she wouldn't be seeing much playing time given our rosters. Ozoude had potential and upside, but again, unless she improved signficantly, not sure she would have gotten as much playing time as she saw this past season. Our roster is stocked this year.

After all the injuries last season, any loss of depth makes me nervous. If these leave open scholarships, I would much rather have the past contributors back! Anyone know if Stanton and Ozoude are still at Rice (just not playing basketball), did they graduate, or did they transfer? Just curious.

I think Stanton's loss is actually a pretty sizable one. She was basically the only guard who could penetrate consistently (apart from Ogwumike) and create shots for others. When she wasn't at the point, we were really stagnant on offense. It's entirely possible that the incoming top-100 freshman can replace her, but we don't know for sure yet.

I think Tina is looking at Wiggins and the freshman to share point duties. I liked Gabby too, but I think her ability to drive is not at he level we need. In HS she was set to go to Arkansas before her injury and I think her performance was still being limited. Compare Hawkins two years ago to Gabby and there was a fall off at the point. But, Gabby was a capable backup and did provide a 3 pt threat.

We should be able to compete with any top 25 team. Compete with a top 10 team? Probaly not yet!

RE: 2018-19 women's basketball roster
This really is a big year for women's basketball. This is a coaching staff that is absolutely unafraid to go after really, really highly ranked recruits (as is evident by landing Jasmine Smith). If we could get ourselves top-25 this year...really play to the potential we have, then I could see us making a surprising splash or two in recruiting.
