Oklahoma RB lands offer from EMU
He put his interest level at a "9 or 9 1/2" on a scale of 1-10. Had a very nice visit this past weekend and came away impressed. Don't know if he will end up in Ypsi, but if he does, EMU will have a stud RB.

Dave is our go to man in OK. 04-cheers

As you may know, asst coach, Nunez, is recruiting up a storm in Oklahoma.

Will Philips is one of I'd think 3 or 4 recruits from OK EMU is on big. Couple others are Jeff Foreman and Darius Brooks. (Hope I didn't forget anyone).

Should be interesting if EMU can pull a trifecta and land all three together.

This is wonderful news. I know many of us have been wanting Creighton and Co. to step it up regarding recruiting efforts and who/how they recruit.

It seems like we've turned a corner and did a lot of wayfinding to figure out what works for us. To learn the way they treated him and how they found and interacted with him is so different than what has traditionally happened.

I can't believe how different our team is compared to previous coaching regimes.

Yep. The EMU FB recruiting brain trust seems to have a very good strategy.

Instead of recruiting one or two players two weeks ago, then same last week and one or two this week, etc. they seemed to nicely bring many players together during the week and gave them the opportunity to be recruited as a 'class' instead of as individuals.

As I suggested above an effective recruiting strategy would be to bring in X number of recruits from the same state, at the same time, and maybe even on the same flights, and see if they will make an agreement among themselves to commit together and be together as teammates for four years.

I can remember when the 'Fab 5' at UofM (MBB) did exactly that. I think Chris Webber and Jalen Rose got together and they recruited Juwan Howard to be part of them and then they recruited the other two to complete the recruiting package. Fascinating story on how the RECRUITS recruited a great recruiting class.

That worked perfectly for them. UofM had missed the NCAAs and then the next season they were on the top of the MBB world.

Nice report, Dave. It can't hurt that EMU will have 3 senior RBs this fall.

What I really like is that Dave provided detail we would not otherwise know. And it doesn't hurt that Dave writes for the recruit's home town newspaper.

This recruit is a real sleeper because his 2017 season was cut short by injury in his first game. Most recruiting is done based on junior season tape.

In this case, the prospect needed to demonstrate his abilities in the spring ball (earlier this year, yes some states have h.s. spring ball) plus these camps, like the one at EMU last week.

Thanks for the kind words guys. Kind of almost awkward to write that, covering a kid that I am pulling for getting an offer from my school. Tried not to be too much of a cheerleader. LOL.

Anyway, he really did come way impressed with EMU and the whole experience.

And yes, even though it did not get mentioned in the story, Jay Nunez, who hails from Alva, Okla., was a big part of Phillips' recruitment.

I'm not sure about that.

We are hitting OK very, very hard because of the roots that Nunez and Neathery have there.

Quite frankly Nunez appears to be a very high energy, very effective recruiter and has relationships there. OK isn't that large so it is possible for him to effective blanket the state.

And I think we'll keep drilling (yes, it is a metaphor) in OK until the well goes dry.

Oklahoma is the have's and have not's. Talent consolidated in a few areas. The great thing for EMU is that Tulsa Union is probably the best program in that State. Lot's of great talent, high level competition, year round football with 7 on 7 etc.

Union would win a State Championship in Michigan, very likely.

I grew up in Ypsi, and moved to Tulsa area about 5 years ago. I would rate HS football here way ahead of Metro Detroit schools. Exciting to see these kids so close to home potentially play for the green and white!

Absolutely agree. HS football here in Oklahoma is a different animal than in Michigan. I didn't realize how much when I first came here 10 years ago. It's worlds apart.

emueagle03, you will have a chance to see Phillips in action near you when Enid visits Jenks on Sept. 28 and Broken Arrow on Nov. 1.

So what do you 2 Oklahomans think of our new RB commit from Union?

I will definately go to the games at Jenks and BA. I live in Bixby, so both are very close.

I have a friend who is on a High School football staff - he told me the kid from Union is a stud.
