According to Wikipedia, Samford, Alabama, and Faulkner are the only ABA-accredited law schools in the state. Miles and Birmingham are not.

One should be aware that accreditation can be withheld on a variety of basis which may have nothing to do with quality of instruction. The school may lack a sufficient law library or advanced degree holding faculty among others. There was an effort in the past by the state bar to close the BSof L because it held night courses for working people who wanted a Law Degree and had no campus. It should be noted that perhaps over 50% of Law School grads never actually practice law for a living but want the background for business reasons.

It should also be noted that 100 lawyers at the bottom of the ocean is called a good start

No!!!

If it had not been for the politically connected Tom Jones in Montgomery and Miles (fear of a law suit) it would have been limited future bar admissions in Alabama

Legal job market has fallen due to Automation(research) and unlimited graduates nationwide for decades. Law school applications are way down. It would be very foolish for anyone to add an accredited law school (very expensive per pupil for salaries and required resources(library) with almost zero research dollars available.

The only valid criticism of UATs law school is since been nationally ranked the number of students admitted from within the state were down.

The number of out of state law school admissions may be the natural result of the last decade when Bama has been more and more dependent on out of state students in its undergrad programs. The last figure I read was that about 60% of the recent year's freshmen classes have been from out of state. It could be that students from the large number of cash strapped districts can't get there from where they are. Those able to pay their own way may be choosing to go to more reputable (and maybe lower cost) schools in other states.
