For Charlotte I believe it’s #1 Cedric Maxwell #2 Larry Ogunjobi #3 Mark Davidson (baseball). Charlotte correct me if I’m wrong. So CUSA what about your school?

RE: Who are the Three Best Athletics to Ever Attend Your School
Middle Tennessee may have the greatest athlete to have ever competed in any sport of current C-USA members. Some call him one of the greatest athletes of all time period, but because he competed in track in the 70's/80's and because his preferred/best event was the shot put he was often an afterthought. He did things at his size (6'5" 275 to 300 lbs) that no man before him had ever done and probably very few have ever come close to since. Below are some of this top recorded numbers:

Ran a 10.5 in the 100
Ran a sub 4.4 40
High jump: 6'6"
In the shot put, he was the first man to throw over 72' (outdoors), 73', 74' and 75'. Held world record for years. Still ranks 4th all time.
Revolutionized the sport by being the first to successfully implement discus style spin for the shot put.
Scored 5750 in the Ohio State Relays decathlon in 1971 (the tales of him pole vaulting are pretty funny - no one would believe it until they saw it).
Sparred with Muhammad Ali
Still holds records at the Highland Games and competed in the World's Strongest Man competition.

Perhaps what he's most known for was a flamboyant bigger than life personality. He passed away last year. RIP Brian.

Numbers 2 and 3 may well be track athletes too. We've had several win individual national titles.

Worth the read...

http://www.chicagotribune.com/news/obitu...story.html

He elbowed his way onto the world stage with all the power and charm a 6-foot-5-inch, 275-pound, self-described "blue-collar kid" from Elgin could muster. Called by some one of the greatest athletes of the 20th century, Oldfield could run a 100-yard dash in 10 seconds, clear 6 feet in the high jump and stuff a 16-pound shot through a basketball hoop

On his blog, Oldfield wrote: "Sometimes I can still taste the bitter salts of defeat and humiliation, but beer can help quite a bit with those.

"Sooner or later you have to learn to laugh at all of the Bozo stuff and think about the great things, like those Dallas Cowboy cheerleaders, for instance. Oh yeah, and that world record throw in 1975."

Brian Oldfield was probably No. 1 on the world stage for MT. How about Olympic Long (Triple) Jumper Tommy Haynes for second best , and for third a tie from four NFL veterans: Ray Oldham, Dwight Stone, Kevin Byard and Don Griffin?

You could throw Mardy Scales in there somewhere too. 100 M NCAA Champion and anchored a sick 4x100 relay team.

Assuming we mean just straight athletes (i.e., not measured by professional success or fame, necessarily), then...

Charlotte:

Cornbread Maxwell:

Eddie Basden:

Larry Ogunjobi:

William & Mary:

Lou Creekmur:

Jack Cloud:

Brian Hyde:

Though it may have one of the most interesting/best athletes ever in Fred Kovaleski: https://www.nytimes.com/2018/05/29/obitu...at-93.html

LA Tech has 3 players in the NFL Hall of Fame: Terry Bradshaw, Fred Dean and Willie Roaf.

LA Tech also has one player in the NBA Hall of Fame: Karl Malone. Malone was a two-time NBA Most Valuable Player, a 14-time NBA All-Star, and an 11-time member of the All-NBA first team. His 36,928 career points scored rank second all-time in NBA history (behind Kareem Abdul-Jabbar), and holds the records for most free throws attempted and made.

I really don't know how any LA Tech fan can leave any one of these 4 guys off the list of Top 3 athletes.

It should also be noted that the Lady Techsters basketball program boasts 3 Wade Trophy winners, 5 olympic medalists, 8 members of the Women's Basketball Hall of Fame, 16 All-Americans, and 21 WNBA players. Wow!

I would include Pat Bradley somewhere in the top 3, she is top ten in LPGA major wins.

Calvin Brock was a heavyweight boxer with a degree in Finance from Charlotte. Observer called him the “boxing banker”. Was on the 2000 Olympic team and was 31-2 as a pro with a title fight loss to one of the Klitscko’s.
He hurt his eye in one his last fights and the surgery was unsuccesful so he lost most of his vision in one of his eyes.

I believe he is in real estate in Charlotte now.

I'll weigh in with some options for WKU. Jim McDaniels (bball), Courtney Lee (bball) and Kenny Perry (golf).

Rice is tough... I’d probably say Tommy Kramer, Larry Izzo, and Lance Berkman.
