If that were the case, we'd rarely - if ever - be in the tournament.
Ole Miss (#100) is in the tourney fairly often.
They are now, and their number will slowly go up. The post that I responded to was stating that we're closer to being the 100th best team right now than we are to being #1. It's not close to being true.

No...it was in reference to the link provided and the topic of the post. We are closer to the number of weeks ranked in the AP poll (500) of the #100 team (50) than we are the #1 team (1,100). It was a comment on the incredible number of the top 3 and nowhere was team talent mentioned in my post, not sure how you took a logical leap that Bob Beamon would be proud of...thanks for trying.

It was an easy leap to make given the doom and gloom of our fan base. Thanks for acknowledging my trying.
Younger fans may not realize just how good UC was year after year from the mid 50's through the late 70's. If the current 64 team NCAA tournament was in place back then, we would have been in it most years. Only the league champ got in back then, and the MVC was a killer league in those days.
It was the 1980's that really sucked the wind out of our sails in BB. The restart under Cronin was a minor blip in comparison.

Such a different era and more stressful for making the tournament. Funny in 1961-62 we had to beat Bradley in a conference play-off at end of year in order to go back and defend our National Championship from the previous year.

My dad was a student from 1958-62, and remained an avid fan up until he started taking my brother and I as youngsters during the late Ed Badger/ Tony Yates days. Miraculously, I came to love the Bearcats during those not-so-heady years. And, you're right. We've been a consistent national player for more than 60 years, with the exception of a dozen or so awfully dark seasons.

Legend has it that Danny Manning was coming to UC until they fired Ed Badger. What might have been...

Me and 3 buddies decided at lunch to blow off late classes and drove to the game.
