Some of us have been saying this for weeks. If you've been listening to daddy lately, you could see this building. The bitterness has been obvious. A public rift between daddy and Penny does no one any good. Time for J&J to turn the mic off on daddy.
I think it does the U of M and Penny a great deal of good. The further the distance the program is from the Lawsons, the better.

Not what I mean. Having daddy on the radio each week acting all Lawson does not do the program good. Saying things like Boyce should not have gone to Memphis. Then leading closer and closer to an active attack on Penny. Public "feud" would have been a better way to phrase it.

Keelon is an idiot and he seems intent on ruining his sons chances for basketball careers.
John is an idiot and I have quit listening to that show. John Martin, I guess, is trying to be controversial, but his stick is stupid. Radio guys who make it big like that are really intelligent and calculating, Martin is not capable of either. If Jason could get away from John, he'd be good. But lately he's been trying to act like John. They can't seem to realize we listen for sports info, not to hear about their private lives and movie preferences.
Having Keelon on every week while he has 2 sons, ex-Tigers, at Kansas and 2 more in the middle of recruiting does not do us, or anyone but Keelon, any favors.

Lawsons = drama
Tubby was right (although wrong about everything else) and Penny is rightly distancing himself.

RE: ESPN - “Meet the New First Family of College Basketball” (Lawson’s)
I finally listened to the full 3-hour podcast of the 7/16 show with daddy Lawson on with J&J. Some nuggets:
Keelon, when asked about Jonathan possibly going to Prep with Chandler: No, we have unfinished business. He has to stick around so we can be a "thorn in they butts" in Memphis.
Mommy and daddy haven't heard from the staff in months. "Why can't they call and talk to us" like other schools do.
Keelon seemed to be threatening Memphis fans with Chandler going to Old Miss. "If he wants to stay close to home, what else can he do".
He mentioned a reality tv show twice. Seems serious about it. Trying to get it launched. (Makes total sense.)
He said twice about Penny and staff, "What they eat at they table don't make me *crap*".
When asked if Memphis will recruit Jonathan, "Naw. Hell, they ain't recruiting Chandler!"
When asked why he thinks Memphis will get Wiseman, Keelon laughed and said, "Cause he be able to do what he wants to do". Then when asked if it would be different at UK, Keelon says "Yeah - you know how Cal roll". A definite shot at Penny.
Jason, who I personally like, seems way too far up Keelon's keester. Before Keelon came on, Jason wanted to fire Todd Day from Bluff City and replace him with Keelon. Jason just seems to believe everything out of Keelon's mouth and never challenges him with follow-up questions after Keelon says something ridiculous. Jason seems to take exception to Penny having Boyce on the team and Jayden on scholly, yet not recruiting Collum or Chandler. John mentioned that he had heard a rumor that Wiseman didn't want to play with Chandler. Jason jumped all over him for spreading rumors with nothing to back it up. Then Jason floats his own rumor, that Bowen might be behind this, blocking Penny from recruiting Chandler. Not Jason's best look.
It's great message board fodder - but it's time for serious media outlets to get out of the Keelon PR game.

What's sad is that there are people on this board 100x worse than Jason, and I think Jason is pretty bad.

Now, I understand why we are not recruiting Chandler.
Feel sorry for him.
Time to move on.

Honestly, while I don't think Penny wants the headache, he is recruiting six players ranked higher than him.
Even without the baggage, we just don't have room for him.

But you would take him as a top 75, if you wanted his top 20 younger brother.
Penny has decided he doesn't. It's not about the rankings.

Good grief. Keelon Sounds sounds very Laver Ball-ish here. If Penny chooses to stay away from that, I totally understand.

Lawson appears to be a handful, but he sired four elite talents. Losing them would be a blow unless Penny replaces them with equal or better recruits. Fortunately, Penny is up to the challenge.

Maybe some of our posters who referred to this family as a "cancer" weren't too far off in their assessment.

No, you wouldn't. Not if you were smart.
It IS about rankings and every single player Penny is recruiting is ranked higher than he or even his brother. Without the extreme baggage of his father or the hitting another coach comes with the younger brother. (haven't seen him in the top 20 either).

Yeah....I said this last year. Anyone who is pretty active on the AAU/travel ball scene is familiar with the family’s “antics”. It would be different if they were isolated incidents—they’re not...they’re frequent. I can honestly say I’ve never witnessed Chandler exhibit any kind of bad behavior on the court or on the bench. Dedric either. KJ and Jonathan? Utterly out of control. BOTH OF THEM. Doesn’t matter how much talent you have when you cannot get along with teammates, coaches and even your own siblings sometimes...mom and dad never made them mind or respect other adults, obviously. I saw Jonathan cuss out American Way’s coach and his own brother (Chandler) when he was in the 6th grade...most ridiculous thing I’ve ever seen a kid that age do. Smh.
People who have never played on a team sometimes underestimate how important team chemistry is to a successful season. ONE cancerous player can cause enough dissension on a team to tank a season. Imagine having a cancerous player and their self-serving, attention-needing, drama-filled dad on the bench and psychotic mom BEHIND the bench. Quiet as its kept, there was drama between Keelon and the East coaches when they had those few losses in a row back during the high school season. Apparently, he was very disrespectful to East’s coaching staff (including Penny) and did a lot of finger pointing to put it nicely.
I’m all for hiring parents to get certain recruits but Keelon is no Milt Wagner...and to top it off, none of these players are Dejuan Wagner’s...he’s completely narcissistic and wants to run ****..to be important. You may put up with some BS from a dad whose kid has D Rose’s or Lebron type talent...definitely not from someone whose kids are questionable to even make an NBA roster. Penny is very wise to steer clear...VERY WISE.
