Does that mean Mr. Lawson took the Wooddale job?

Keelon said athletic director Tom Bowen promised him that he would keep his assistant gig regardless of whom the school hired. Instead, Smith made his son, Saul Smith, an assistant and demoted Keelon to director of player development, a position he created. Both K.J. and Dedric transferred after the season and their father resigned, the beginning of a mass exodus of players who transferred to other programs. Smith struggled without the Lawsons and was fired after the 2017-18 season.

Keelon said he never took the demotion personally, but he also admitted that the program left a scar that could complicate Hardaway's pursuit of Chandler and K.J.

Keelon said he's not sure his younger boys will participate in Hardaway's rebuilding effort because he doesn't trust the school's leadership. But an apology would help heal the wound, he said.

"The boys are open-minded," he said. "My wife, she's real bitter and big about Memphis dropping the ball on the whole situation with us, and Coach Smith and [the Memphis administration] making it seem like we were going after each other. I told Penny that."

I told everyone shortly after it happened it went down like this and got ripped by half the posters on here. Bowen f***** up and now Lawson is Pre season 1st Team AA. Plus, when an AD doesn’t honor his promises, it reflects badly on the school.

It would be nice if Tubby would apologize to the Memphis fans, the Memphis boosters, the Memphis Administration, and the Memphis basketball program. Tubby hired his son, was a lazy recruiter, didn't do public relations, and walked away with 15 million dollars of Memphis and Memphis booster money. So it would be nice if he would apologize, but I doubt we'll ever get one and that's okay. I've gotten over it

And Bowen, who may be the worst High D1 AD when it comes to PR, should acknowledge that he made those promises to Keelon. Those broken promises, unknown by general public at the time, negatively affected public perception of the Lawson’s (even Dedric who was a great kid to have on the team, very coachable and liked by his teammates) to create this so called “drama”. KJ is a different player but he would never have did the negative things he did without the embarrassment of his Dad by Tubby and even his staff.

But that will never happen. Meanwhile, we lost a projected AA in Dedric and a pipeline to some of the best players in Memphis.

And if Dedric and KJ had stayed... chances are Tubby would still be the coach. Ill take how it played out.

Me too! We would have a potential AA and not make the tournament again.

This is true...

If Tubby could have kept the Lawsons and still landed the Jucos that would have been a good team.

I do think Martin wouldn't have developed into the player he has become if the Lawsons stayed though.
