Great thread as always. As your number show, the Niners return 7 of 9 position player starters, but lost our Friday ace and some key bullpen guys on the mound.

Niners open up 2019 at home for 3 vs Delaware. We also travel to Arkansas for a weekend early on. We will host 3 games in the Triple A park uptown as well. Contracts are still being finalized, but I know at least 1 of those opponents was a Regional host in 2018.

I know USM will do everything they can to keep it down there (and I don't blame them), but I'd love to see Charlotte put in to host in the near future.

We have a new AD and the old half assed way of doing things at Charlotte is coming to an end. We have a great relationship with the Charlotte Knights (AAA affiliate of the White Sox) with a beautiful ballpark uptown Charlotte within walking distance to tons of hotels, bars, restaurants, and the light rail. Also, if there were some weather problems, our campus facility is 15 minutes away and can easily be accessed on the light rail for fans and media if we needed to double up.

Our baseball fanbase is not nearly as large as USM's, but I think we'd put enough people in there to make it worthwhile for sponsors. Our last season in the A-10, we hosted the tournament on-campus and was pretty successful. It just comes down to how much sponsorship money we can get to put a bid in for the Tourney.

And Tech has hired Little Rock pitching coach/recruiting coordinator Mike Silva.

Might not be a bad idea to move it away from USM's fan base for a year or 2. Granted bad weather was the biggest culprit for attendance this past year but the newness of having it on the coast will be worn out come year 4 (assuming it is held there again in 2019 for year 3). If Charlotte can get some sponsors to pony up the money to win the bid then I'd be all for it...same for Rice or FAU or FIU.

USM/FAU should alternate with Reckling. More than enough seating capacity and cheap flights into Houston. Neutral sites never made sense to me, that works for P5 fanbases but not CUSA.

Charlotte or Houston would be great alternatives. I agree that a rotation would be best to keep the interest of the fans.

It’d be favorable if we could somehow work together with FIU to host the tournament, but the lack of facilities south of us nearly makes that impossible. Fort Lauderdale isn’t the epicenter it used to be when the Yankees were here; or even the Orioles for that matter. It’s sad to see these stadiums with so much history just rotting away. However, we’ve begun building a relationship with the Astros’ & Nationals’ spring training ballpark in West Palm Beach - we’ve played a few midweek games there since it opened in 2017. WPB has an int’l airport, CityPlace downtown with plenty of hotels, restaurants, bars, the Tri-Rail, beaches, etc. which could make it a potential destination.

We'll see what happens.

I think the benefit of hosting the tournament at a neutral site is for better perception of the conference. But I definitely agree with you.

If the concern is a neutral site, I vote for “quasi-neutral” sites... Biloxi, Sugar Land, Charlotte’s Minor League Park, etc...

MT's Toman hired Kyle Bunn as the Blue Raider Pitching Coach. Bunn was Indiana's Pitching Coach. Appears to be a really good hire for Toman and MT.

Rice and USM should alternate.

If anyone else develops the fanbase, they can get in the mix. Until then, you absolutely have to have one of those two fanbases to carry it.

A true neutral site would be a financial disaster—to say nothing of every game being played in front of 7k empty seats. SEC is the only conference that can pull that off.

Wow.

I was looking at his resume and it doesn’t make a ton of sense.

He built up the Ole Miss staff and helped Bianco establish that program in the early-mid 00s, spent a year at Clemson, and was hired away by Bama. He spent one good year at Bama but mysteriously departed and ended up at ETSU two years later.

Regardless, you guys seem to have hired a guy with a damn good resume.

I changed it.

Are you guys in Pensacola next season? Read somewhere that the Cajuns and Troy are 2 of the teams in that event next season. We've played there regularly here recently so I'm wondering if we're in the field as well.

So our roster should now be full. We added Chipola's 2B Urbaez (UT who I expect to compete for SS) and two additional JuCo throwing arms. I've heard we're trying to do an exhibition game with FIU the day before or afternoon of our football game on Nov. 3 – similar to what Tennessee and Alabama are doing. I think it's a great idea. And, I should be hearing soon what our OOC schedule will be.

One of assistants said on the radio last week that we have an exhibition lined up at home with Tulane or Nicholls State (he couldn't remember which one).

Rice is getting a pitcher transfer from Missouri - a Houston kid coming back home named Drake Greenwood. He didn't pitch much last year for Mizzou but he had nice credentials out of high school.

Rice has two starters in the Cape Cod all star game, including the starting pitcher for the west team (Matt Canterino). Braden Comeaux will be at 2nd base for the west.
