It’s already different...
Sitting at Reckling today watching some of the better travel ball teams in the state play in the KC Invitational and Coach Bragga is down there front and center watching 2 of Rice’s 2019 commits play (Kiddy, Martin). Coach Pope and Coach Janish were also there. Been on the job less than a week and he’s already making contact with current commits and getting a look at possible other targets.

Love it.

No, but Pope, Janish and Wayne are all under contract through June 30th.

Sure won’t hurt their chances to be retained to be there either.

For sure...

Pope’s a grinder. I posted this last summer when he was promoted to recruiting coordinator and I’ll post it again...he is seemingly everywhere when it comes to summer travel ball games. The day after he was given the recruiting reins last summer, he was in Lubbock for the Premier Nationals....in his own car. Stayed through every single game. He’s a worker....and a Houston guy.

I really hope he’s retained.

Agreed. I like Janish a lot, but I'd take Pope over Paul as assistant coach any day of the week. And for those who are skeptical of his coaching skills based on the performance of our pitching staff the past couple years, you have to recognize that Wayne was the defacto pitching coach-- even down to calling pitches during games; John was simply following The OG's instructions and overall pitching philosophy. Given his track record in developing pitchers at Cy Ranch, I'd like Pope to be given an opportunity to prove his ability when he is truly given the reigns over the pitching staff.

Wow - already throwing Wayne Graham under the bus.

Graham's control of in-game decisions is common knowledge and been discussed many times on Parliament over the years. It's not a criticism to mention it. It is what it is.

It IS a criticism when he first states "based on the performance of our pitching staff the past couple years ..." I do not believe that he is bragging about the outstanding results.

If the results weren't good then they weren't good. I read it as hope for better results from the new coach, rather than gratuitous criticism of the previous coach.

So if it’s not Pope’s fault, then Wayne is a crappy pitching coach or our pitchers are crappy, which would imply that none of our pre-Pope coaches did anything in terms of recruiting.

RE: It’s already different...
Didn’t want this thread becoming a negative gripe session. I simply started it as a sign of good things to come. Regarding Coach Pope, my viewpoint is that he’s a very important guy for Coach Bragga to have around given his close connections with many local high school coaches. Coach Graham is a hall of fame legend and I will never disparage his abilities as a pitching/hitting/leadership guru.

Problems with pitching can be heavily layered and could be multi-faceted. However, I think our pitchers did improve over the last 2 seasons.

I’m excited about the future regardless of who Coach Bragga hires as assistants. Good things are on the horizon.

Yep. At an early-season game out here in California a bunch of years ago, some fans and I wondered what had happened to a promising reliever who seemed to have lost his control and mean-streak edge. An insider told us that he was having problems with his girlfriend.

College athletes are still young and maturing adults ... and often have many of the same issues as non-athletes of the same age.

Thanks, Frizzy. Anyone who thinks I'm intentionally throwing The OG under the bus must be a newbie to The Parliament and have no clue where my allegiances lie.

What in the world. I personally know who you are talking about and that wasn't the issue at all. Graham latched onto that and berated him in team meetings though. Told him he was a waste of both scholarship and meal money.

He better hire his assistants. Recruiting is in full swing and we are behind. Every coach around is at the Area Code workouts at UH except us
