Georgia Southern Fans - Recomendations Needed
Hey all. We're leaving southern FL heading back to VA and have planned a stop for Savannah for a day as it's pretty close to half way. Looking for recommendations for lunch and dinner restaurants and generally what the best things to see are for a limited amount of time. We'll probably go down to the river walk tonight for some dinner and check out some of the architecture and beauty of the rest of the city tomorrow before heading out. We've got two kids in tow so nothing too fancy meal wise where we can't have kids and I can't where shorts and flip flops. But we do like to eat well and Price isn't too much of a factor. Also since you're currently challenging Hades for who's the hottest around what area for walking around would get us the most bang for our buck? Thanks in advance. I checked GSU Fans for a stickied thread but didn't see one. GATA.

Thanks brother, that'll help. Like I said I looked for sticky threads but didn't run a search. I'll peruse that thread but if anyone has any specific tips on my situation I'd appreciate that as well. I mean I don't want to muddle up the SB board. There's some important off season, "Who has the best uniforms" off season threads getting pushed down. 03-wink

Not a Savannh native but ive been there for both pleasure and business.

I remember randomly walking into Barracuda Bobs on the river street for a meal. Good southern seafood place. Pretty casual local joint. Still think of their shrimp grits

The Crab Shack near Tybee Island was a cool casual seafood experience (hawaiian shirt, beach shorts, and flip flops kind of place). Large portions , cheap prices, and good crabs & crawfish. There was something unique about eating inside a straw hut by the water while a live african drum circle playing in the background. Oh yeah, they had real alligators just hanging out in the pool by the entrance...lol

The Godfather at Zunzi's might just be the best sandwich I've ever had.

Can't go wrong with brunch at the Lady and Sons...unless you say, want to do any physical activity the rest of the day.

It was actually voted the best sammich in America a couple years ago on the food network. Zunzi’s got so popular since then that they opened another location in Atlanta near Howell Mill

If you drink enough Spiked Peach Teas you won’t even be able to leave the restaurant

It's definitely a heavy brunch.

Sorry, I like it. Do you have a better place? That might have been helpful.

We actually went to Barracuda Bobs, the guy at the front desk recommended as well. Shrimp and grits isn’t usually something I order but I remembered your post and gave it a try. They were good, lots of flavor. My wife was happy with her meal as well. Enjoyed a Saturday evening on the river strolling with some frozen beverages from Wet Willies. Yesterday got up and walked down Bull street looking at the architecture and squares. I was sweating balls by 9:30 but wasn’t too bad until the afternoon. Heat index of 110 or something insane. Had some Mexican lunch at Jalepenos. We were ready for some Marguritas at 11:30 but we’re told they couldn’t serve alcohol until 12:30 on a Sunday. How do you do brunch like that? Is that a state or local ordinance? Anyway with the heat it was probably for the best. Had a great time though. Beautiful, fun city. Good to be back in Sweet Virginia though.

04-cheers

Glad you liked it. I didn't like grits all my life either but this place totally changed my mind.

The 1230 thing is for the state.

Used to, Savannah was one of the only places you could even get a drink on Sundays, so at least it's gotten better.

LOL @ "draconian". Comparing the death penalty for stealing cabbage with not being able to get a drink before noon on Sunday is over-the-top even for you. Find an AA meeting, please.

I'd love to get a H/H, my trip up to Norfolk in 2012 was a lot of fun.

I imagine a lot of us would find our way back to Williamsburg since we've had so much fun there as well.

AA meeting, seriously?

There's no reasonable reason to curtail the hours of consumption for a responsible person of legal age.

I'm glad North Carolina finally got with the times.

I've always said it's because the church go-ers don't want the liquor stores to run out of the good stuff before they had a chance to get in there
