He said expectations are Omaha and championships. Nothing on recruiting or assistants.

Yeah, mostly softballs. That said, after the Bloomgren press conference he did a bunch of 1-1 interviews where more specifics were offered. Maybe it'll be similar?

No questions about assistant coaches either, although i know of at least one person meeting with him this week.

Agreed. Definitely a high-energy, articulate and player-friendly coach. I was very disappointed with the questions from the press-- no questions about recruiting...no questions about assistant coaches.

Encouraged that he's already reached out to Wayne, and Wayne has already met with him. Critical to ensure a smooth transition and understanding of where each returning player is at.

Note-- contracts expire for Wayne, Janish and Pope next week, on July 1st.

Was wondering why that question wasn't asked.

He spoke to Wayne yesterday he said. Hopefully we get more follow up on details after the reception.

Great "how do you feel?" questions from the local media. Really?

I wish they had passed the mic to some of the alums/supporters there. I was waiting for Bob R. to grab the mic.

Too bad school is out, the Thresher writers could have asked more meaningful questions.

As a former Thresher writer and one of their biggest supporters, I'm interpreting this as a dig...but they truly did ask Karlgaard the tough questions at the Bailiff firing press conference and have put out some good content this year. I really only follow them and Glynn for Rice news coverage, everyone else is there to fill up a couple minutes on the evening news. Berman, KPRC, etc. don't follow the programs all year, but Glynn and the Thresher do. Which explains the quality of the questions asked, most of those were just looking for generic soundbytes they can cut for 30 second news segments to fill up some time

Nope, I wasn't being sarcastic. The writers I worked with at the Thresher were much more intelligent and thoughtful when it came to crafting interview questions than the clowns that ply their trade on the local news.

Andrew Grottkau is a very good writer. The rest of the folks with the Thresher, meh... But hey we'll take it.

I honestly think Glynn Hill isn't great for a beat writer, but that's more on the Chron than on him.

Berman is great for breaking news, but day-to-day stuff, not so much. Gotta love how Berman will ambush someone in an airport though.

AtTheRoost seems promising so far.

I asked him about assistants. He said probably not about Lance. He will interview both of our assistants. I'm guessing he'll hire either Paul or Pope. I really think we've got a winner.

Read it as saying "it is regrettable that there was not a Thresher reporter there because school is out..."

Yup, you are correct. Thought it was saying the quality of the questions was so low even a Thresher reporter could've asked better ones. But not at all what he was saying, just misinterpreted

Nope, I get it. Andrew Grottkau is really excellent. Best Thresher sports editor we’ve had in years.

I was there, but as an alum, not media. Football only here.

Btw anybody see how the Houston tv stations covered it on 10 o’clock news? Just missed it getting home.

Channel 13 ran the story on both their 6 and 10 newscasts. Showed the clip from Bragga about wanting kids who complete constantly, even walking to class.

RE: Bragga Press Conference
This guy may be our head coach, but it sounds like he's the second or third choice of the finalists. In that spirit I'm glad Rice didn't hire Berkman, but I'm hoping Bragga can ignite things. Texas is hardcore college baseball. I hope he can at least stop the slide. I'm cautious but optimistic. This may be a rare case. Rice may have the facilities, coaching salaries, and success in baseball that elevates a guy like Bragga. He may have more to work with at Rice than TT. Rice can't talk like that often.
