Ohio ICE raid nets over 100 illegals at meat plant
http://www.foxnews.com/us/2018/06/20/ove...-raid.html

Quote:More than 100 workers were arrested Tuesday at an Ohio meatpacking plant by federal agents following a yearlong immigration investigation, the second large-scale raid within the state in the past two weeks.

The investigation focused on whether the company knowingly hired people who are in the country illegally, Immigration and Customs Enforcement officials said.

The agency said it also was looking into whether many of the workers were using fraudulent identification belonging to U.S. citizens.

Quote:The 146 arrests in one of the largest workplace immigration raids in recent years happened at Fresh Mark's meat processing plant in Salem, in northeastern Ohio. Immigration agents and local authorities also carried out search warrants at the company's two other locations in Massillon and its plant in Canton.

Most of the workers arrested were from Guatemala, said Khaalid Walls, an agency spokesman.

Several of those who were detained were processed and released on Tuesday because they are the sole care providers of children or they have health concerns, Walls said.

No criminal charges have been filed against Fresh Mark, but authorities say the investigation is continuing.

Absolutely. THIS is where we fail. Arrest and prosecute to the FULLEST extent of the law ANYONE hiring a person without legal permission to work in the USA. Until we do this and dry up the jobs?...They will just keep coming.

It is really unbelievable. The CEO should rot away much longer than the tools that took the illegal opportunity s/he provided.

A number of years ago I had a chance to hire a bunch of illegals to build a deck with attached boardwalk for my house.

I decided to try to build it myself b/c I considered it to be an insult for anyone to work for pennies doing back breaking work as well as the fact that it was just plain wrong for so many other reasons.

So I decided to try it myself.

And I messed it up royally. I am talking Rich Rodriguez at Michigan debacle. But I built it. And then had to tear it all out and take it to the dump cause it rotten and warped.

Morale of the story is this: Never hire an illegal, pay a good wage, and never let me build a deck.

That is the problem. Tysons got busted for hiring illegals for their plants here in Arkansas. They still keep doing this. The problem is we seemed to go after the illegals and only give the CEOs, board members and the owners a slap on the wrist. I suggested before that we should fined the companies $1 million for every illegal caught working for them, and fined the CEOs and board members $1 million as well. That would make them stopped in a hurry.

You are on to something. Fine the companies hiring illegals and put the money into construction funds to build the wall.

They do fine the companies, usually more than $1 million. A large family owned corporate farm here settled an immigration case for $1 million.

I am talking about $1 million FOR EACH IlLLEGALS that they hired. That means if they hired 100? That would be $100 million fine.

That would put most businesses out of business and then you'd have nobody earning any money to support you.

Here's the problem from the point of view of the business (which the left always conveniently ignores). I have someone applying for a job, who let's is hispanic. His documentation is suspect, but could be legitimate. I go to e-verify and the system is down or they'll get back to me tomorrow. But I don't need this person tomorrow. I need him today. So here are my options:

1) Hire him and run the risk of ICE
2) Don't hire him and run the risk of a discrimination lawsuit
3) Move my business overseas to a country with a rational and reliable immigration system and lower taxes and less bureaucratic red tape.

Guess which one I'm going to choose, if I can.

And as quickly as I can.

Give the employers a week to verify. That is sufficient time.

Unless it is intentional. Then throw them in jail. Fine them if it was a mistake.

Wasn't there a law passes when W. Bush was in office to address issues like this? There were penalties for the owner of the company a raid found illegals.

RE: Ohio ICE raid nets over 100 illegals at meat plant
I found the big problem in the restaurant industry wasn't people hiring illegals, but hiring them on work visas that then expire. Once someone is hired and worked there for years management would forget about the expiration date until someone would get arrested and deported.

I for the most part did not have an issue with this. These people were paying their taxes just like I was and the wages we were earning I doubt anyone was sucking on the government tit. Just good people that didn't want to go back to the **** hole they came from after having a taste of America
