UNT could easily lose 3-5 games this year: @Arkansas, @UAB, FAU, @UTSA, and @ODU. And before you easily dismiss ODU, you might want to look at this: UNT is 1-6 against CUSA east division teams on the road being outscored 296-151. You've got a tough road to hoe if you want to win the division. My guess would be 5-3 or 6-2 in conference. But, opinions are like a-holes, so we'll see.

My bold prediction... North Texas finishes 3rd in the West and FAU does not win the East.

So who finishes 1st and 2nd in the West and 1st in the East?

Those five are certainly going to be tough. SMU too. Arkansas is almost certainly a loss, but if we do beat them, watch out. Of our divisional games, UAB has me the most concerned. We have to travel to UAB after playing a tough Southern Miss team the prior week, while UAB will be coming out of a game with Rice.

I take comfort in knowing we are bringing back every part of our air attack, and our defense can't possibly be worse this season. Could North Texas finish third in the west? Sure, but it doesn't seem likely.

This is not true and no, its not just me that thinks we might surprise some this season.

Who else? Between NNN and Twitter, I've literally seen no one that thinks this team wins more than four games. People have stated the goal should be 6 wins or Lambert should be fired.

We still don't know who the QB will be and there isn't single group on the field that I would rate in the top half of CUSA. This is a lame duck season for us and if I'm wrong I'll gladly eat crow. If I'm right, Lambert is gone...so it's a win-win situation in my book.

A quick glance at one thread on NNN and I count at least 3 people talking about 4-5 wins. Also, I personally know at least that many more Charlotte fans who are quietly saying the same thing. I think this team may be comparable to 2016 when we went 4-8 with 2 late 1-point losses.

Don't think that's very bold. Isn't the Vegas line UNT -3 1/2 right now?

Prediction, WKU wins 3 games this coming season. Sanford is fired after an 0-6 start the year after.

My bold prediction: Niners go to a bowl game (and lose), so Lambert must be retained (and wins 3 games in 2019). Welcome to the hell that is my football life.

RE: Bold Predictions for the 2018 C-USA Football Season
UNT (9-1) and FAU (8-2) both go through the conference undefeated before meeting up in Denton. UNT, with CUSA’s best offense, wins a surprisingly low scoring game in OT. UNT finishes the season undefeated in conference and ranked Top 25 nationally. FAU’s offense struggles more than expected due to some inexperience on the OL but makes up for it with one of CUSA’s best defenses in years.

Marshall, UAB, and La Tech also have strong seasons but fall just short. WKU, Charlotte, UTEP, and Rice finish at the bottom of the conference.

Seth Littrell leaves to coach at Texas Tech after the season and UNT replaces him with Graham Harrell to keep continuity within the program. Kendall Briles is a finalist for the position but doesn’t get the job after Briles’ is unable to have similar success in Houston in 2018 without Singletary and FAU’s veteran OL from 2017.

Lane Kiffin leaves to coach Georgia Tech after the season. FAU replaces him with Greg Schiano.

FIU emerges as the perceived favorite for 2019 with UNT, La Tech, and Marshall also contending.

Rice is better than people expected and has the most number of freshmen on the conference all-freshmen team.

I love your prediction in the first paragraph, and hope you are right. But, I don't think Littrell is going to take the Texas Tech job. I see that job going to Kiffin. Texas Tech always seems to hire big, news making, personalities, and Kiffin has that.

Our AD is doing a good job of supporting Littrell and giving him the resources he wants and needs to be successful. Plus, we are currently working on signing Littrell to a new contract, which should have a significant raise. I could see UNT paying him somewhere in the $1.5-$2 million range, and placing a huge buyout in the contract. Our AD was quoted as saying he wants to make sure Littrell is compensated at a level equal to our peer institutions, not just in C-USA, but among the top programs in the G5. If we can do that, Littrell would probably pass on lower P5 offers, and perhaps even some mid-P5 offers. We will see.

I actually think 5/6 wins for UTEP is not super bold.
Wins will be against: Norther Arizona, UNLV, NMSU, Rice, WKU and UAB

The most difficult game of those six will be UAB and UTEP gets them in El Paso.

Maybe you are right about Littrell staying but he hasn’t shown a desire to do that in his time at UNT so far. Littrell’s name keeps coming up (more so than Kiffin) as interested in other job openings and not even for P5 programs. I know he came up through program insiders as interested in the UCF job just last year and I believe also at SMU. I think he is at least as likely to leave as Kiffin if he has the same level of success. Of course, he is not as well known to the casual CFB fan as Kiffin is but he is probably a more attractive candidate to most P5 programs as he hasn’t already failed at being a P5 head coach like Kiffin has.

I agree though, we will see.

RE: Bold Predictions for the 2018 C-USA Football Season
I think Kiffin stays at FAU until 2020. He wants to make a point that he is different and he does enjoy Boca (family proximity, house on the beach, proximity to local recruits, forgiving university leadership).

I think he gives FAU 3 10-win seasons and leaves to an SEC program.
