Not sure why I am jumping in this conversation, but I would like to point out there isn't a huge difference in cost going to the Hawaii Bowl versus other CUSA bowls in Boca Raton or Fort Worth. Now if you turn it into a week long vacation or take a whole family, then it could be expensive. I've been to Hawaii three times. The flights were about $700. I planned and got an American Express credit card ahead of time and saved the cost of a ticket. We stayed in a condo with a balcony directly on the ocean that was cheaper than a beach front rental at Gulf Shores. A flight to Miami wouldn't be much cheaper. Hotels / condos in Hawaii aren't as expensive as you think, tickets to the game would be about the same, you could avoid renting a car, etc

How far in advance did you buy airline tickets to Hawaii? IIRC we got maybe two weeks notice that the team was going there. Any sort of deal you were able to make in advance on air or lodging won't apply. It's last second reservations for the holiday weekend.

That also sets aside that there can be a shortage of disposable income right at Christmas.

Fly Southwest to Ft Lauderdale, use Fox rental cars, Comfort Suites. Also cheaper to fly into Dallas Love Field. If it isn't much cheaper as they say you are doing it wrong.

a hell of a lot cheaper than Honolulu. Made the trip numerous times to south Fla.

It was annoying as a fan that we couldn’t make the bowl, but I completely understood. My guess is Clark will reward the fans this time around if we have options.

Good points on your reply. Last minute airfares would be more expensive wherever you fly (Miami or Hawaii). My point is the differential cost between two people attending a bowl within driving distance versus Hawaii might not be as great as you would think. However, I would imagine last minute flights to Hawaii are a greater premium than last minute flight costs to Miami.

The bowl is a reward for the players and program, not the fans. To even insinuate that you’d pull your funding because the team is having historical success but isn’t convenient for you to go to the bowl game is asinine.

I guess you’d pull you funding from basketball if they make the NCAA regional and are sent to California???

I want my guys in a bowl, I want them to succeed, i will support them wherever they go, even if it’s front of my TV because I can’t get to whichever location they are.

The bowl game is also a reward for the fans...

People who often travel as a regular part of their business or professional organizational memberships have advantages over those who get to travel very little. They become adept at using such things as credit card connections, dotcom travel services and frequent flyer miles. They know just who to call to meet any travel needs at the best prices.

For many families, travel means visiting children or other relatives and staying in their guest bedroom. Staying in a motel &/or dining at nice restaurants means paying credit card charges over at least 3 or 4 months afterward. (I don't have family in Hawai'i or the Bahamas)

I can rent a car and split the cost of car ($80 for 3 days) and gas ($150) with 3 other people and drive to Miami. Rent a hotel room (double bed suite with a foldout couch ) and split the cost($300). That leaves tickets ($60 each) and incidentals ($60).
Each person is probably out $300 a piece

Flight to Hawaii is $700 a piece. Tickets $60 a piece
How much was your condo? Divide that by 4.

Just one ticket to Hawaii covered the cost of two people out of 4, on a 3 day road trip to Miami which you said wouldn't be much cheaper. You automaticly went to flying. The differential cost between four people attending a bowl within driving distance versus flying to Hawaii is greater than you would think.

Hahaha, you'd win using that strategy. I'm probably a bit older than most posters on this board. I'm a bit past sharing a car and hotel with a bunch of buddies.

Amazing. So much B&W about where we MIGHT play a bowl game and we haven't even played a game yet in 2018. 03-lmfao

It's the dead part of the season. What else do we have to do. As long as we're all being civil who is it hurting?

As far as travel, we all don't have the same amount of finances so I can't assume that just because I can afford to do something someone else can. Not without budgeting.

It’s nice to actually have expectations of being in a bowl.

True, while I wouldn't mind a closer bowl game. I could understand if Clark and co. decided on Hawaii as a destination since we still have some 2014 guys around.

I completely understood the Bahamas trip. There were players and coaches to reward for hanging in and keeping the faith, then busting their humps to make the season a success. While I would have liked to have been able to go, I was just fine with it.

This season I'd love to go to New Orleans. I think that's a fun trip all the way around.

And yes, it's wonderful to not only have a team to speculate about but to have hope for another season of success. That's a damn nice change from expecting to suck, straight out, or from hoping to be a little better than mediocre. What a difference a coach makes!
