It really is, and this years DL will be Troy's best in history, at least from a talent perspective. Three guys at DE / BAN are 0.85 or better, with a couple 1st Team All SBC on the DL.

Vic Koenning's bread and butter is disguising coverages. We get more sacks and QB hurries from confused QBs than we do actually muscling through the OL. This is why we can compete with teams like Boise and LSU. It's more mental than physical, and that's a game we can win vs the big boys.

I can freely admit that Troy DL kicked our OL's collective azzes. Manning looked flustered all game. It got pretty ugly. Props to Vic Koenning

Not at all. We were 3rd nationally in run defense with something like 2.78 yards per play, and stuffed anyone who had a good running game. In fact, we usually only played with one linebacker and sent everyone else that wasn't on the d-line to cover passes. Because of that we're one of eight teams in the last ten years to not allow a play from scrimmage over 50 yards.

The big weaknesses that I've seen for Vic Koenning, not just at Troy, are running quarterbacks and option oriented schemes. To be clear, a pro style or spread system with a pocket passer and a strong run game will do nothing against Troy. It's mobile quarterbacks and options.

That said, the offenses that have gashed us for big yardages were all really good, except for Tyson Summers 5-7 team. Both of the last two times we've played GS, they've rolled out a true TO scheme they hadn't used all year, so there may be something of a surprise element. Will be curious to see what happens this year, but I'm just not convinced VK can stop the triple option.

No. a Mobile QB with the ability to run the option and throw the ball can cause them some problems. We put up 600 yards on total offense on them last year using a Mobile QB, but couldn't solve their Red Zone Defense, and our own inability to hold onto the football. A team with a good kicking game could also present Troy some issues if they have a good defense behind them.

They have weaknesses, just not a ton of them.

To be fair, we were #1 in Red Zone Defense by an extremely wide margin. No one even came close. It was truly phenomenal.

Yes, but a better team makes the field goals we missed. Hence my comment about needing a good kicking game. If we had made two of the field goals we botched with you guys, the game is tied at the end at worst.

I get that, but logic like that always assumes the other team played a perfect game. I believe we missed one as well, and made several other questionable play calls, so whatever "what ifs" you get, we can get a few too.

If we had been smarter with who was kicking for App, we'd have wins over Tennessee and Wake (among others) over the past few years. It is a very important role.

Meh, even if you had am amazing kicker, the SEC would have found a way to make sure Tennessee won that game.

Small senior class graduating next year (10 or so scholarship seniors). Some normal attrition equals a class size of 12-15.

Yea. Only about 12-13 grants available this year due to huge RSFr & Soph glasses.

Just glad all our commits have other FBS offers all but one had multiple. Refreshing change from Summers who loved going head to head with Mercer and Furman for recruits.
