That Seattle bid for team #32 getting a little more serious.

RE: 2018-19 NHL Thread
Trotz, who was on the final year of his contract in Washington this past season, triggered a clause with the Stanley Cup win that added a two-year extension for $1.8 million per year which he did not accept. According to capfriendly.com, there are at a minimum 8 coaches who make more, 4 who make less and the rest are unknown.

https://www.capfriendly.com/coaches

Pressure on the next coach to get something done and the Caps if they don't do well this upcoming year.

Caps did a really nice job resigning John Carlson to a new deal. A very important piece for the Caps. Basically deal was facilitated by dealing Orpik plus Grubauer for a 2nd rd pick. Colorado has waived Orpik, and there's a chance that the Caps could sign him at a lower number.

Cam Ward out in Carolina. Man, that is a tough one as he's been money for the franchise in these down seasons.

I went to Summerfest and they had a Q&A with President/GM Don Waddell. He was asked about the goaltending situation outright, and he essentially said that Scott Darling came into camp out of shape last fall and never really committed to being the #1 goaltender. He also said that this offseason, Darling has been working with a personal trainer and is indeed committed to coming into camp this fall in top shape. If he gets back to playing like he did in Chicago, the Canes will be fine. Otherwise, it will be another dicey year regardless of how many goals they score.

Liking the Ryan O'Reilly trade the Blues pulled off with the Sabres. Unloaded two bad contracts and got us the center we needed in a pretty shallow free agent market.

I'm sorry, while Cam might have had to move on because of money/terms/trade for new players.... to put him out for Darling-- with his pathetic goal tending last year -- is stupid. Off season changes in whatever or not.... he better show up prepared to be a starting goalie. IF he doesn't we won't be able to dump him because no one else would want him either.

And in reading the N&O online tonight Jeff Skinner is on the auction block too. That said, I agree that he's been soft for a while now and if doesn't start to shape up he needs to move on. Same article also has Faulk being shopped around too. Faulk has usually been money but he was not that great last year.

Faulk is now almost assuredly gone now after the Canes added the top FA D on the market last night.

I hope Skinner stays, I think he'll rebound in a big way under Brind'Amour. He wasn't getting along with Peters and I think it affected his play.

That is really cool for Ovechkin..... I can't hate because I feel he's definitely earned what he's getting now.

Canes dump the Bolts at their place 4-1 in our first preseason game. I like what I heard on the radio. Sounds like Ron is a no effort, no playcoach.

Canes romp Tampa 6-1, with goals from Necas and Hamilton and 3 assists for Captain Justin Williams.

So, I know it's just the preseason, but Flames fans have to be getting nervous with Calgary 0-3 and the Canes 2-0.

There's just a new attitude with the team post Bill Peters.

Nobody is nervous about anything that happens in preseason (except injuries). The Caps were 2-5 last year tied for the 2nd worst preseason record and won the Stanley Cup. If Calgary fans are nervous, it's because they missed the playoffs last year and want to get back there.

I'm not going to read too much into the preseason results but we are scoring and we are showing effort--two things that have been lacking.

Hopefully the final roster to start the season will put out the effort for the Hurricanes to get something done.

RE: 2018-19 NHL Thread
My point is that the Hurricanes often outshot their opponents by a lot under Bill Peters, but more often than not did not outscore their opponents.

Now, Calgary is doing exactly that. Meanwhile, the Hurricanes are NOT doing that any more under new leadership.

I guess we'll see once the season starts, but I'd be worried if I were a Flames fan.

I think the Caps had a halfway decent debut last night....

Only biggest shut out win ever by a defending Stanley Cup Champion team. Scored 24 seconds into the game. Then again 1:47 into the game.

Canes blow out the Blue Jackets tonight.

2 games, 3 points....

And I lot of what I saw says to me that they took what they did in game 1 and applied the lessons learned.

Coach Brind'Amour is creating quite the buzz in Raleigh. Canes first NHL team to 7 points (though not everyone has played 4 games yet).

Rookie Andrei Svechnikov has 2 goals and fellow rookie Warren Foegele has set a franchise record for fastest player to 5 goals with 5 in 6 career NHL games.
