RE: 2018-19 NHL Thread
I'm glad the Canes are on the upswing. The best southern hockey markets (Tampa, Nashville) are ones with no NBA team, while college hoops are big in Raleigh the fact they're the only big four pro team around gives them a bit of potential.

Meanwhile my Blues are back from the dead, for now. I feel like we're peaking too early, but we needed a run like this to even get into playoff contention in the first place so I'll take what I can get.

**we need a hockey puck Icon for these**

Impressed with the Blues, and glad to see them back. Carolina has a way to go, but coming on...as are the Blackhawks recently. Sad that Vegas is fading right now. Unless they get it together they may find themselves outside looking in.

Vegas ran an unprecedented amount of good luck and good hockey to get to the finals in Y1 of existence. I just hope their fans don't completely evaporate if they miss the playoffs in Y2.

That said, I can't wait to possibly attend some playoff games in PNC again. Its been 11 years since I was able to watch playoff hockey in person.

Well, they did have a Snow Day in Las Vegas today, so there's that!

Quote:Las Vegas official snowfall for Feb 20th is 0.5 inches. This breaks a daily snowfall record for this date. It is also the second latest date (winter season) where a half inch or more of snowfall was recorded. Record latest was 0.6" on Feb 25th, 1987. http://pic.twitter.com/EAFJLC6vYJ
Las Vegas schools remained open Thursday but classes have been canceled for Friday. The storm closed some freeways and delayed dozens of flights at McCarran International Airport, which received a record 0.8 inches. "We don't have snowplows," airport spokeswoman Christine Crews told the AP. She said about 100 flights were canceled because of snow and ice.

Vegas now on a 9-1-0 run, with 89 points after beating Winnipeg.
Tampa Bay also 9-1-0 over last 10, but Tampa just a bit better than Knights, so far.

RE: 2018-19 NHL Thread
Blues briefly went from top in the Central yesterday with a matchup against the Stars, to third place versus the Preds with them having home ice.

Tampa Bay is so damn good it's hard to pick against them, but with all the pressure that comes with the President's Trophy I wouldn't be completely shocked if someone pulls the upset.

Who do I want to see win it all? My Blues of course, though I'm not banking on that. I wouldn't mind seeing the Jackets or Canes hoisting the cup. I don't absolutely hate the teams in the playoffs, though I wouldn't like seeing the Leafs win because then our title drought is officially the longest in hockey.

THINK ABOUT THIS FOR A MINUTE:

https://www.nhl.com/standings/2018/wildcard

Bill Peters gets the axe in Carolina, goes to Calgary and a) wins the Pacific Division and b) ties for 2nd most points in the league. Arguably coach of the year candidate considering how the Flames did. Then you have Rod Brind'Amour who takes a team that hasn't been to the playoffs in 10 years for all kinds of reasons and puts them in the playoffs in year 1 of his tenure. Arguably a coach of the year candidate as well.

Just rooting for Vegas Golden Knights to go deep in the playoffs again, though their first round draw against the Sharks is a tough one.

If they go deep this year, I think they would be the first team to do so and in that regard, the positive vibes that could put into the Vegas market for attendance and fan support for them would be HUGE. That would be one of the strongest franchise debuts in history as far as I know. About the only thing I think would remotely come close is Jacksonville and Carolina making it to their respective conference championship games in year 2.

Preds in 6
Jets in 6
Calgary in 6
Vegas in 7
*The Sharks seem snakebit in the playoffs for some reason. I do think the Sharks are due, but every year I think that they get ousted.

Tampa in 5
Toronto in 7
Carolina in 7
*I don't think the Canes get swept even if they did in the regular season. I can't wait to attend Game 4 in Raleigh. I've digested the series this year and the Canes haven't been that far away in the games, just bad breaks. I think the fan support once the series hits Raleigh will net out two wins.
Pittsburgh in 6
