Tuukka Rask was ridiculous tonight in goal for Boston- a brick wall back there.
First time I've seen a goalie block a shot with the patch on his shoulder.
OK Canes, sharpen your skates, you're going to Boston.

In one way I thought if we played Columbus and having home ice advantage would have been good for us but I don't know if the hate was there. On the other hand, I think we could internally generate more adrenaline for going against Boston and we have had some playoff history with them.

I think the rest will help us tremendously though, and allowing some players to recover their health.

Can't wait.

What a game, I won't be able to sleep at all tonight. Only halfway to the cup though, still a long way to go.

52 saves !!

Vince Lombardi said football is a game of inches. After watching some of those shots in slo-mo, hockey is a game of millimeters.

I don't know how pro goalies do it man.... all those players jammed up in front of you to block your sight of the pick ....then you have rebounds and deflections.... I mean, that has to be the most pressure packed position. I don't even think Soccer goalies have it that rough in terms of the speed around the goal and clogging up of the sitelines to see what is going on to stop it.

RE: 2018-19 NHL Thread
Not to get ahead of myself, but it's been 49 years since St. Louis was in the Stanley Cup Finals. (Only the Maple Leafs have waited longer: 52 years). The Blues have never won the Cup since entering the NHL in 1967. (Just something to keep an eye on.)

If you go by points earned during the season, the finals should be Boston (107) v. San Jose (101).
But that doesn't seem to matter this year (Tampa Bay earned 128 points).
Both St. Louis and Raleigh earned 99 points. (There all pretty close; give Boston a slight edge.)
Boston's goal difference for the season was +44, SJ +28, StL +24, Ral +22. (again Boston is slightly better.)

Boston played Carolina 3 times this season: Boston scored 10 goals, Carolina scored 10 goals.
Bos 3 - Car 2 at Ral on Oct 30; Car 5 - Bos 3 at Ral on Dec 23; Bos 4 - Car 3 in OT on Mar 5 at Bos.

San Jose met St. Louis 3 times this season: SJ scored 7 goals, Stl scored 6 goals.
Stl 4 - SJ 0 on Nov 9 at Stl; SJ 4 - Stl 0 on Nov 17 at SJ; SJ 3 - Stl 2 in OT on Mar 9 at SJ.

Pretty evenly matched. It'l probably come down to whose healthy and whose hurting.

Speed of play around the goal is definitely faster in hockey, but the problem of blocked sitelines is worse in soccer. Of course being hit with a puck on a 100 mph slap shot is worse than anything a soccer keeper faces, other than a head-to-head collision.

I just saw this article at USAToday:
The St. Louis Blues won a wild Game 7 in double OT and everyone praised Dallas' goalie
https://ftw.usatoday.com/2019/05/stars-b...op-praised

Bishop is the losing goalie...and everyone is talking about what he did.
My favorite tweet: Ben Bishop could catch Thor's hammer

He was the reason the game didn't end up 6-1 Blues like Game 7 against the Stars in 2016. The fact he's a St. Louis native also helps kick up the local buzz.

Just knowing how I don't want Boston to win because of Boston, I can just feel that the Bruins will beat Carolina. Go Canes.

eh, I guess Bruins and Blues is best that can be hoped for. Not so into it since Vegas got hosed by officials. I just can't get into rooting for 'Canes, sorry, PT.

Vegas already re-loading for next season. Can't wait until they get back on the ice in October!

Tough pill to swallow last night. Justin Williams isn't taking his own advice. Need to win game 4 because this town/fans deserve to see their team's last home game as win considering how the season has gone.

SJ vs StL:
What was that ?? I thought NHL headquarters could review calls?
If that's not a hand pass, what is it?
How can that happen especially in a Stanley Cup semi-final in OT?

Not quite the ice hockey version of the "Hand of God", but still, clearly played off the hand.

One important difference, though: The NHL says that under their rules that play was not reviewable by video, and the goal stands. If the "Hand of God", or any handball in the sequence leading to a goal, happened today in fĂștbol, video review would be used and the goal would be disallowed.

They should follow the same rule as they do for offsides on a goal for reviews - look at the play as a whole. The officials/linesmen blew it when none of them saw the hand pass and there is nothing that could be done under the current review rules to overturn the miss by the refs.

I don't blame the on ice refs- could be blocked from view, bad angle, etc. If not 100% sure, they wouldn't want to make a call in that circumstance. But it reminds me of New Orleans Saints last year in the semi-final when a call was missed on the field, everyone could clearly see it in the replay, and the NFL could do nothing to get it right. Replay and review is to "get it right". NHL needs to change the rule by the time the sun goes down today.
