Next basketball assistant
Any thoughts on a new basketball assistant to replace retiring Larry Farmer?
Seems like the Candidate should be able to coach bigs on the team.

Any former Broncos in the mix?
Edit: Don’t even bother wanting Saddie as WMU can’t afford him.

RE: Next basketball assistant
I wonder if Joe Reitz has a coaching interest? I have no idea if he can coach or not but he is a great ambassador for WMU and clearly his name would carry some weight in the Indy/Indiana recruiting grounds. The dude had some solid post moves. About as loyal to Hawk as one can be. No idea if he's interested. I think he's got a broadcasting interest possibly as well.

Did Ben ever get his degree?
Quite sure that is a NCAA requirement.

Why Yes Ben Reed holds a Masters Degree so i'm sure he is WELL qualified! He is currently the Head Coach at Kellogg Community College (going into his 4th year) as well as a professor at Olivet College.

The big issue with hiring Ben Reed would be that his presence on the bench would make everyone who remembers him as a player extremely sad that he's not on the court.

David Kool would be an interesting pick. I'll bet though it's someone currently at JC or D3 level. WMU doesn't pay their assistants too well.

Wasn’t David Kool’s goal to be a HS teacher & coach?
Now as coach & AD I would be shocked to see him rejoin the college coach rat race.

Introduction

Interesting take:

Quote:"When losing Coach Farmer, our biggest concern was losing our connections with the Chicago recruiting base which has been great to us,"

Brandon Johnson: Bates recruit
TJ Clifford: Bates recruit
Wilkins: Bates recruit
Thomas Wilder: Holland recruit

Darius Paul (Hawk "recruiting to his culture")
AJ Avery (good kid, solid player)
Jarrin Randall (still looking to land with a D2)

I must be forgetting kids. Who?

Is he bringing more cowbell?

I can’t decide if this is a brilliant hire or a really weird one. Seems like he has great connections to Chicago and northern Indiana... two places we’ve historically recruited really well in. But a very random resume.

Christopher Walken is the first thing I saw too.

Charles HARRIS and Paul were close via AAU. Paul was a huge get. Very talented but bedeviled by demons that may or may not have surfaced in his time at WMU.

Googled the new guy. Some interesting reads albeit scant. Very much the gym rat hanger on. Article re taking a HS job in Tallahassee then reneging on it a weeks later. I prefer Renaissance men. Maybe there is a side to that that isn’t available.

I’d be interested in knowing what he did at UTEP. Couldn’t find anything. I get the Chicago recruiting perspective. My gut tells me he he is a low threat to advance up the ladder like Jordan who now at Butler had 3 jobs since in rapid succession that left a “wake” at all of the “rungs” below. The issue then is after a couple of years (which appears to be “Red’s shelf life) what then?

Wasn't listed on their 2017-18 roster. Strange.

Would think with his record in HS and at LAVC he could have done better than assistant at Testicle Tech and Cardinal Stritch. Feels like something's missing.

I would have much rather had Ben Reed than this Tom Jones looking dude. I'd be pretty upset if it came out Ben didn't at least get a phone call.
