RE: 2019 Football Recruiting Class
Saw the coaching staff just offered a 4 star 2020 Solomon DeShields. Great to see the staff going after recruits like this.

As Coach Lewis would say, "No risk it, no biscuit!"

RE: 2019 Football Recruiting Class
I don't know how accurate the offer lists are on the recruiting sites but if you look at them it is mostly 3 stars with a few 4 stars sprinkled in. I find it crazy not to offer 4 or 5 star recruits all they can do is say no but there is always that chance they visit campus and fall in love with it.

Lol. Saw this tweet from a UCLA fan:

I’m having a tough time getting over the fact that @UCLAFootball is 80th in the country in recruiting and its mid November. How can the future be bright when Kent State is out recruiting you? #UCLA

RE: 2019 Football Recruiting Class
According to one of the papers I get, the Canton Repository, Kent State is really close to giving the first D I offer to Xavior Gray, a 6'9", 310 lb tackle from Jackson High School. He would be the seconds recruit from that school, after TE hayden Junker. Apparently he's a little slow, but has dropped down from 484 lbs two years ago.

RE: 2019 Football Recruiting Class
How many spots open this year? I count 15 recruits plus the 4 transfers coming in next year.

RE: 2019 Football Recruiting Class
Too bad about Rankin. What a backfield tandem he and Shaw could've been with a better O-Line. Speaking of RBs, one of our commitments, RB Kenneth Walker, has re-opened his recruiting. We have offers out to several others, so we'll see how things shake out when the early signing period comes around.

Don’t know why for sure, but I have a lot of confidence in this staff’s ability to find the key components needed for next year and fill the holes any decommits create.

You are right to be confident in their recruiting ability.

RE: 2019 Football Recruiting Class
My concern with this staff is their identifying under rated prospects earlier on in the recruiting process. Then when the recruit develops during his senior year a higher profile program moves in.

That’s a problem as old as college football. I don’t think there’s much mid major coaches can do about getting poached by the big programs.

RE: 2019 Football Recruiting Class
I was at the Akron Hoban vs. Massillon state championship (D II) game last night. Kent State recruit Dean Clark from Massillon looked great. I hope he stays with his commitment.

Axeme, actually there was a time when if a player made a "verbal" commitment, most other schools would back off. It was actually considered somewhat unethical. No more. "Gentlemen's agreements", the good ones and the bad (such as keeping the number of African-Americans on the roster to a very small number) seem to be a thing of the past.

The more I follow recruiting the more I realize that the "commitment lists" are fluid right up until signing day.

RE: 2019 Football Recruiting Class
goldenflash99, one of the reasons athletes used to "verbal" was to get other schools off their backs during their senior year in high school. Then, of course, came "early signing" periods. For many players now it seems to be to just assure that they have an offer they can fall back on if nothing better comes along. Of course, sometimes COACHES now don't even honor "verbal" commits. Sometimes they are left with too many commits and actually withdraw offers. I mentioned the death of "gentlemen's agreements" above. In a way you can't blame coaches. The salaries have ballooned so much over the past several decades and the downside of that is that they are under tremendous pressure to win and win big. Of course coaches were always expected to win, but not like today with the astounding amounts of money involved in Division I college football and basketball. I watched my first college game in 1953. The changes I've seen over last 65 years in college football and basketball are almost unbelievable.

J Bailey one of our O Line recruits helped his team Kirtland over Marion Local in the D 4 Title game today!

RE: 2019 Football Recruiting Class
Muskrat, a perfect example is Devin Fox, a talented WR/DB from Maple Hts who verbally committed to KSU earlier this year. In at least two interviews I've read, he has reiterated his commitment to us while saying he is keeping his options open. He has scheduled an official visit to Temple, and talks with coaches from Rutgers and Cincinnati regularly. I hope we hang onto him, but I don't believe for one second that he is committed to us any more than these other schools.

I like that: "he has reiterated his commitment to us while saying he is keeping his options open" It sounds like Mr. Fox has a fine career ahead of him as a politician.

TRANSLATION ... He's No. 1 n Kent State's list but has yet to be offered by the others, OR, has yet to academically qualify.

Guys like this... if they don't sign early, move on.

Picked a Washington DC recruit according to Sean Lewis's Twitter page. Can't find who though.
