Class is starting to take shape. 247Sports has updated their rankings and we are moving up quickly both in conference and nationally. Obviously still a long way to go but I'm buying into SL & Co. bringing in a 2nd straight solid class.

I think if the team wins 5 or more games this year they will be able to really sell to recruits. That would make their 3rd class fun to track.

Feature on quarterback recruit Collin Schlee, who's supposed to be quite good.
https://www.fredericknewspost.com/sports...30f92.html

And this Bleacher Report article says this fall's KSU team "may be the worst in the country."

Sounds like Schlee is a good basketball player too. I wonder if they'd think about letting him do double duty a la Jose Davis.

RE: 2019 Football Recruiting Class
6 of the 12 are "3 star" recruits so far according to 247sports. Throw in the 8 from the spring and in 9 months this team has 14 "3 star" recruits. We only had 14 total during the Haynes era. I am excited to see how this class wraps up.

Of course I usually get excited with a new coaching staff and that is the case with this staff. What I like is not only the number of 3 star recruits, but the 2 star recruits at least have D1 bodies. This just tells me that it might take an extra year for these players to develop the skills to be good players, but at least the frame is there. I hope some of you will get excited with me.

Looks like an under-the-radar recruit. He was getting looks from Georgia Tech but as far as I can tell we were his first FBS offer.

RE: 2019 Football Recruiting Class
How about the fact there are 13 verbals before the season started.

I would venture to say we had 5 at most at this point last year

The other nice thing is seeing that Akron only has 6 verbals at the moment. I know verbals mean very little but it is fun to talk about something positive for once. The last 5 years were a drain on any enjoyment from football.

There's a cultural shift taking place. I can guarantee that SL will never utter the words "our guys played hard, we just came up short"which was seemingly part of every PH post-game press conference.

Feels similar to the Hazell years.

I would say up to 4 wins this year, not sure the cupboard is as stocked as when Hazell inheirited the team. But if you remember the 2011 season, they were 1-6 at the bye and flipped a switch and finished 5-7.

RE: 2019 Football Recruiting Class
While coach is growing out his beard there is a school 20 minutes away that is churning out D1 talent. Probably too talented for us but hopefully he can work that school.

Hoban enters this season with five players committed to a college for football — Salopek (Miami of Ohio), Rumler (Michigan), senior tight end Quan Easterling (Akron) senior running back Tyris Dickerson (Eastern Kentucky) and junior tight end Caden Clark (Alabama).

Knights senior wide receiver Mason Tipton has an offer from Navy, and junior running back-linebacker DeaMonte Trayanum has scholarship offers from several schools, including Ohio State, Michigan, Michigan State, Wisconsin, Stanford and Notre Dame.
