Boy, the Baseball gods certainly did wreak their vengeance on the Hoghatters for failure to catch that foul pop up. [/align]

the 1B kid had the pop up zeroed in, no problem game over, then the little 2Br actually clipped his shoulder when he came barreling by and totally broke his focus on the ball. On top of that, he (2Br) overruns it !?!?!?!?!?

That was really awful karma. BB gods just had it in for the hogs tonite.

I just cannot cheer for Arkansas. That school's decision to leave the Southwest Conference greased the skid that led to the end of that league.

That actually surpassed the way we choked away some games the past few years. I was worried #20 was our local guy (Biggers) who is from Ridge Point but it's a kid from Fayetteville instead.

Their decision was forced upon them by economics, and many other factors that caused the breakup were well underway.

And any objective analysis has to include as a significant contributor the fact that Rice--and TCU--were not making legitimate efforts to field competitive D1 programs. TCU took it as a wakeup call, and they got with the program--helped immensely, so I'm told, by the Barnett Shale. Rice did not. We made our own bed on this one, and we could and should have seen it coming.

I think the RF could have even caught that ball...he was sort of trotting in because the 2B was calling him off. What an unbelievable way to lose the game.

It was the RFers ball, especially since all the Arkansas outfielders were playing shallow at he time, but as you said, he was just jogging in. The 1B also was just jogging out there and was out of position to make the catch. What a choke job.

Walt, not to beat a dead horse, but what I saw was the 1Br was IN POSITION to step under the ball and make the catch, but at PRECISELY the wrong moment he got shoulder clipped by the 2Br, and took his eye off the ball as a result.

Any one of those three kids could have EASILY caught the ball, game over, national champions. It's a Bill Buckner moment.

Either that or no bunts.

On Bunting:
@aaronfitt

Cadyn Grenier on his bases-loaded bunt for a hit: “That was my call, and it worked great. I guess all I can say is, ‘Learn to bunt, kids. It’s important.’"

@aaronfitt

Pat Casey on Cadyn Grenier: “When he was a freshman, he said, ‘I’ve never bunted in my life, Coach.’ I said, ‘Well, the way you’re hitting you’d better learn how to bunt.’” Casey said now Grenier has the freedom to bunt when he wants.

Oregon State freshman pitcher working on a complete game, retiring 17 straight. Beavers up 4-0 going to B8.

Make that 20 straight from the freshman to finish off the Hogs. 5-0 is the final and the Beavers win their third national championship.

There you have it

And so it is ... and continues.

The first time Arkansas has been shutout all season ... a 129-pitch beauty by Kevin Abel, a freshman pitcher from San Diego.

It was also the first-ever complete-game shutout in the CWS in which the pitcher has given up 2 or fewer hits.

Congrats to the Beavers!!

Congratulations to OSU! They came within an out of losing and took full advantage of the "play" to win their third national championship.
I feel for Arkansas. They will remember the "play" forever...

Maybe they'll call it "The Misplay"?

"The Play" is already taken:
