You do you wku. Power programs cheat to win all the time, would I have no issues with wku working within the rules to land top talent.
More programs should do it. I have no issue using a third chair to land a top 5 freshman every year.
Exactly. I do not understand some fans complaining about this. What did Stansbury do? He did what he have to land top talent with out breaking rules and if you ask me we all should be doing that and get the conference a better image and chances of getting to upper echelon. If WKU has money to throw at these kind of things they should absolutely do it and so should ODU but we are broke and can't even afford a decent coach. I think most of those complain are kind of jealous that WKU is doing this and landing top talent.

I have to look that figure up. May be a fellow Monarch fan who has this information handy can share it with us.

Just wondering cause ours would be $480k now. I’m guessing most people would be within $100k of that number

As a Hilltoppers fan, it’s not my favorite thing that’s happened. BUT it’s not illegal so I say go for it.

To be fair, we only pay their legal guardians... $200k: New coach salary announced
And for the record, I'm cool with it and everybody else is doing it, and will do it, until it's not ok to do it any more, the end.

I mostly agree with this. Programs are supposed to be "in it to win it", and Stansbury seems to fully subscribe to that approach. Good for him and good for WKU.
My one reservation might be team chemistry. I am confident that Hollingsworth will prove to be WKU's most valuable player next year. The player that I saw in Norfolk was borderline unstoppable. (Yeah, I know that it was Justin Johnson with numbers, but it was Hollingsworth who was truly tearing us up.)
I don't know the young man, but it wouldn't surprise me if he (or perhaps someone else on the team) might think that perhaps HIS guardian might be entitled to a cool $200k as well. After all, "everybody else is doing it, and will do it, until it's not ok to do it any more."

Here are the 2016-17 numbers reported from the state.
Jeff Jones: $452,573
John Richardson: $142,296
Bryant Stith: $102,800
Kelvin Jefferson: $101,800
Total: $799,469
Our numbers all seem to be relatively low right now though. Our previous head coach was making around $750k per year, but I believe he was also on his 3rd contract at that point.

First of all, I am in support of what WKU is doing. But I have to point out "only" $200k is pretty high. And I believe that matches your highest paid assistant already? For reference, see my previous post, $200k would beat out all the salaries for our assistants, but I will say we are under a value system at the moment so not sure if it's honestly worth comparing.

ODU must pay their women and Olympic coaches a lot more than the rest of CUSA, especially Western ....
COACHING / STAFF
2017 $13,584,792
2017 Bobby Wilder $650,000
Asst coaches $1,109,566
Jeff Jones: $452,573
John Richardson: $142,296
Bryant Stith: $102,800
Kelvin Jefferson: $101,800
Total: $799,469
Wonder where the rest of that 13.5 million is going?
Western's numbers
2017 $10,089,843
2.2 million is for head coach and asst in FB

ODU has 18 teams, soon to be 19. ODU saves some by having the same staff for men's and women's sailing and swimming & diving. Giving us 16 coaching staffs for 18 sports.
WKU only has 14 teams. WKU also saves a bit having the same staff for men's and women's track and cross country. Giving WKU 11 coaching staffs for 14 sports.
We also are likely paying more for staff and administrative positions due to cost of living differences between BG and Norfolk.

I would guess the $10.9M is split between:
Mens
Baseball
Golf
Soccer
Sailing
Swimming & Diving
Tennis
Wrestling
Womens
Basketball
Field Hockey
Golf
Lacrosse
Rowing
Soccer
Sailing
Swimming & Diving
Tennis
Averaging out at $680k for the coaches and staff for each sport. I don't think that number is egregious, do you?

Seems really high considering that's only $119,469 than ODU's top sport....basketball. But maybe ODU has a lot more support staff than Western or you budget it different.
Here's a look at a few from Western for 2016-17 budget with wages and benefits like pictured below
[
BB (some of Stansbury contract not included will be paid from private donation)
$628,459.44 wages
$828,146.46 wages/benefits
FB
$2,008,476.00 wages
$2,557,387.91 wages/benefits
Baseball
$331,824 wages
$436,950 wages/benefits
Volley Ball
$178,308.00
$249,661.76
Softball
$135,000.00
$187,727.51
Lady Toppers (BB)
$428,808.00
$592,719.45

Look to my earlier comment.
ODU is paying 5 more coaching staffs than WKU. That also means ODU probably has more admin/support staff due to the additional sports/facilities.
